Brake shoe dragging on my new 2500RL
On our third trip in the trailer I pulled over at a rest stop. I smelled something like burning rubber. Tires all looked good, but then I saw that one of the 4 shiny aluminum wheels was black and hot to the touch. At the campground I decided to get the drum off to see what was causing the problem before trying to get home.
Upon opening it was immediately clear the brake show return spring had fallen off or broken and ended up grinding the end off in the brake drum. The heat seemed to have liquified the grease and ran out in the brake drum chamber. I have a message in to the dealer now, but I am curious if this has happened to anyone else and what caused it.
I am an old car guy. My first car, a 1967 Camaro, had brakes similar to this. I am disappointed little has changed in over 40 years.
