We find it slightly easier to do the weighing in reverse. First, after you leave home on a real trip, pull onto the scales and weigh to get the combined weights. Then pull off the scales and find a place to park the trailer and unhitch. Drive around and reweigh, then hitch up again and continue on your trip.

We have only used CAT scales and never had a problem with this.

I agree. Most of the times when you are wanting to do a weigh in, you are pulling your trailer to the scale and it's easier to do the combo weigh first, then the truck.

We pick up our new 337RLS tomorrow and will be weighing it on the way home. I will weigh it again after I load it and then will have the whole story so to speak.

    CAT scale

Is just a brand of scales that the truckers and others use to weigh their vehicles and trailers. Click on the link.

Most states don't want non-commercial vehicles in there - especially while open. When not manned, some folks will pull through and peer through the windows to see the scale readout - but it only gives GVW - not the kind of weights we're wanting.

I am fortunate my closest scale takes RV's no problem. If I need to drop the trailer and a truck comes I just wait until they get weighed and then complete my weighing. It always takes two weighs to get all the data I need The truckers are always appreciative of my consideration.

On the weighing matter, Industrial trucks, tractor rigs must stop at weigh stations. Does the same apply to truck towing TT or 5th wheels. Or to Class A or Class C MH?

In addition to pin weight (payload) another thing to remember is GCWR - combined truck and 5th wheel weight - all axles added together. Sometimes you can max out there before you max out on payload.
