Pet insurance...
Hi everyone... Was hoping to get some feed back on Pet Insurance plans for our 2 furbabies. Anyone have any suggestions on companies? Any bad experiences? We would be looking for something that could be used nationwide.
Thanks in advance...

We got Trupanion for our first dog and they were highly regarded and have proven to be excellent. They cover what they say they will per the coverage limits signed up for, submitting claims is super easy, they reimburse very quickly and customer service has been excellent. I recall the first claim we had, I paid for the vet bill on our credit card rather than from our checking account simply because we did not know how long the reimbursement would take, we received it 2-weeks prior to the CC bill being do. On our second dog, we went with Healthy Paws only because a premium comparison indicated Healthy Paws was less expensive than Trupanion at the time and they operate on the same model as Trupanion. We have only had one claim but it was for less than our deductible so no reimbursement, but applied it to any future claims and they processed the paperwork quickly. Their customer service has also been great. I highly recommend either of these two companies.

Many many years ago we purchased pet insurance associated with Banfield. It got really stupid when the vets were following protocol and ordering all kinds of unnecessary test just so they could collect from the insurance company. Not sure if it was a bad vet or bad insurance, didn't take us long to drop the whole thing and go to a country vet that just used common sense to treat our pets.

That is why we stayed away from chain vet insurance plans which can at best tie your hands and at worse lead to poor or inappropriate treatment. In our case with Trupanion & Healthy Paws pet insurance plans, you can go to any vet of your choice, pay the bill and then submit the bill to the insurance for reimbursement.
