Genset storage - how do you leave the fuel tank at season end

Afternoon all - I went to the storage unit for my monthly Genset exercise (I have the Onan 5500 EVAP unit in my Momentum) and ran the tank dry. I do this with my home generator, but it stays in the garage between exercises and not exposed to the elements/temp swings that the unit in the Momentum would have. So while I prefer to not have any fuel sitting in the carb (I use non-ethanol AND SeaFoam treat it) I wonder if the empty fuel cell will gather moisture and cause me to have water in the fuel when I refuel in the next few months?

Any thoughts or opinions on how you do this? Leave it empty, fill it up with treated non-e fuel again? As an FYI I always keep my truck filled when the temps drop to avoid condensation in the fuel tank, but it gets filled up and used much more frequently.

    Thanks, Y'all!

I don’t own an rv genset but I do own two John Deere garden tractors, a tiller, push mower, 7kw generator etc. I’ve never had any problems running these items dry like you did and then filling them up before use. Every couple of years I will pull off the fuel bowl on the carb and wipe them out with some carb cleaner and a rag. I run regular pump gas. The bowls are usually clean but I have seen some gunk(fuel lines probably) on my 30 year old Deere.

    Craig,

I always fill mine up with 100 % gas when I store it for winter, I also use seafoam and sta-bil. I have been doing this the past 5 years on this camper and previous one. I started doing this after I had let my previous trailer sit and not exercise it and got build up in the bowl and had to take it apart and clean it. I still will run it once a month for about 20-30 minutes under load.

I go with sta-bil and do a monthly run for at least an hour with some load on it.

Being a pilot and mechanic, when I store the aircraft over the winter it is full. You may get considerable condensation depending on your environment.

Thank you, Stephen, that was my main concern was the condensation in the empty tank. Looks like I will be filling up again and keep doing my monthly gen runs.
