EMS or Not
I just spent a lot of money on an EMS. I was in the basement (not even the first time) and realized there is a Surge Guard Transfer Switch. Could this make my EMS redundant? I realize the EMS covers more than surge, but isn't that the most important?

I think that would be for using a generator, does your unit have a generator or come with generator prep? It's different than the EMS

As mentioned, that is most likely from a generator prep, it's the auto transfer switch which is made by Surge Guard. You did not waste your money on the EMS.
