    Almost lost the Imagine yesterday

I was driving down a windy two-lane towing the Imagine 2670MK with our 2000 Ford Excursion. Four on board. A big ****** 60-70’ red oak decides to fall across the road right in front of me. I watched it falling and thought to myself “self, there’s no way we’re going to stop in time”. Surprising to all aboard I got the whole freight train stopped with 15’ to spare. Old lady’s Lincoln going the other way was not so lucky. She had a scratch on her knuckle. If she had been 1/2 second faster or we had been 3-4 seconds faster things might have had a more sinister ending. This was my first full-on panic stop in two years of RVing, and for some reason I had the reaction time of someone 30 years younger. Damn good reason to make sure your trailer brakes aren’t contaminated, or maybe even do a disk brake upgrade!

I have come upon trees in the road before, but never had one fall while I was watching it. I might have had to change pants after that!! I'm pretty sure my wife would have blown my eardrums out too!!!!

Congrats on the timely stop! How much topple and displacement inside the vehicles?

Surprisingly very little. Coffee maker made it from one end of the cabinet to the other. Bags in the bedroom was all up against the front of the camper. Three of the drawers in the back of the camper were fully open. Wifey did a good job checking those before opening slides! Luckily our glass food storage containers didn’t get launched through the glass overhead cabinet doors.

I am sure after your heart rate came back down to normal, you were thanking your lucky stars, karma and juju that you were a couple seconds behind. Great save and defensive driving!

Nice stop! Emergency stops are horrifying. Not only do you have the instantaneous in your face we are all going to die thing going on the other side of the brain is saying what is breaking loose and how much damage is there.

I have thousands and thousand of miles over 8 years of fulltiming, I have had 3 emergency stops that I can recall. Each one could have gone horribly wrong but didn't because I pay attention to my preventative maintenance and the condition of my RV braking system. LOL, we no longer have any glass wine glasses.
