Increased psi, will the rims handle it?

When you upgraded to a better tire with an increased psi rating, did the original rims handle it? Looking at the Imagine 2970RL and Reflection 297RSTS. We plan to upgrade tires ASAP after purchase.

Most wheels, will have the psi rating stamped on the backside of the rim....somewhere. That would be my suggestion to look back there on one of your wheels and see that it says.

When we made our original deal on the below listed 2015 model, I had inquired if there was a upgraded tire option. I was told, "No". Numerous times after the deal was consummated, I continued to check with the salesman and got the same answer. Eventually, that option was offered, and although it wasn't cheap, I went for it. It did come with the same rims, with pressure being raised from 80 psi to 120 psi. I was told that the valve stems were upgraded to handle the increased pressure. Keep in mind that a RV salesman told me that. I would hope that the original rims are rated for the increased pressure. So far, and about 20,000 miles later, I have never had an issue with the tires, or rims.

One last point I would make, is that just because a salesman tells you something, doesn't mean that it's true. Keep checking on an upgrade from the factory. Just realize that it most likely will cost you more money doing it that way, although it is easier.

It depends on the wheels that come on the unit. If you can't find the max PSI stamped on the wheel, you can go through GD Customer Service with the series/model of trailer (or the VIN in you can get it). They will check with Lionshead to determine the max PSI and load rating (also important). In all cases, the valve stems will have to be upgraded as mentioned. All this said, I'm not sure you need to go to a heavier load range tire on an Imagine... and you can't get anything beyond load range E for 15" wheels, either.

RV rims are rated to their tire capacity by size.
    A 15" 6-5.5" max rated for 2830 lbs.
A 2830 lb tire is an E rated tired @80 PSI
In order to go higher you would need a 16" 6-5.5" rim that can handle 3200+ lbs @80 PSI.
Some rims are slightly different but for the most part they're all relatively close.

    Goodyear Endurance as an example
    A 225/75/15" E rated tire is 2830 @80 psi
    A 235/80/16" E rated tire is 3420+ @80 psi.

You need to find the MFG of your rim.

Just upgraded my 16 inch tires to 14 ply 110 psi. The wheels that came on my Reflection are only good for 3400 lbs and 80psi. Found some Sendel wheels, same size, good for 4400lbs and 110 psi.

Which rim did you go with - all I am finding is 3500 lbs give or take and 110 psi 16" 6 bolt 5.5 spacing ?
    Thanks

I thought you could only get 110 PSI with 8 lug rims.

I assume you're not suggesting that because the tire indicates it can be filled up to 110 psi you need to or should? Most top tier tire manufacturers provide inflation tables to get the correct inflation information.

Do you have Sailuns by chance? Email Sailun with your trailer weights and axle capacities and they will provide you with the correct inflation rate.

My 13,200 lb trailer with 2 6,000 lb axles and a documented pin weight of 3,200 lbs came back with an inflation recommendation of 50 psi! I currently run them at 80 based on the OEM tire recommendations but am in the process of believing in what Sailun told me and reducing them as I watch tire temps and wear.

Here's the direct quote from Sailun customer service:

In regard to your question about inflation, I have attached the Tire and Rim Association load and inflation table for your size (reference line 10). Make sure your trailer is fully loaded when you calculate your weight. Based on the weight of 11,000 lbs. (11,000/4 = 2,750/tire) you stated below, the minimum pressure you should run is 50 psi. I normally recommend 5-10 psi higher than the calculated pressure for some safety. You will want to stay pretty close to this recommendation for ride comfort and to achieve good tire wear. Don’t worry, the tire is engineered for this pressure for the load. The reason the max is 110 psi is the tire is used in some commercial applications that require the additional load carrying capacity.

My GY Endurance have embossed on the sidewall. Inflate to 80psi for MAX load. No reason to run MAX psi if you're not towing MAX load.
With that being said not all ST tires are created equal and each tire should be aired up per MFG instructions.
