Need advice on 2019 Ram 3500 diesel dually purchase
We have a 2018 Grand Design Momentum 5th wheel. GVWR is 16500lbs. Hitch weight 2794 lbs.
As the title says we are looking at The Ram with the 6.7L I6 Cummins HO Turbo Diesel and
Aisin 6- speed Auto trans with a 3.73 axle. Max payload 4360 lbs and GVWR of 11,400 lbs, GcWR 21500, 5th wheel hitch rating of 13810. Curb weight front axle 4123 and rear 2910 lbs. For the life of me I have no idea if this vehicle is adequate. I don’t want to put others or my family at risk by having an inadequate tow vehicle. Can anyone please help.
Thank you in advance!!!

Those truck numbers sound dont sound right at all. If it was a Dually it would have a GVWR of 14,000lbs. A single rear wheel 3500 with a diesel would be 12,300/400.
But any Dually will be plenty2021 Solitude 375 RES-R

It looks like you pulled numbers from the wrong chart for the RAM (perhaps from a chart for single rear wheel trucks?). The 2019 and 2020 RAM 3500 DRW have MUCH more capacity that what you're listing. A DRW RAM 3500 with the Cummins should be way more than adequate for anything Grand Design makes.

I almost think the dealer is just putting up the same numbers for all their trucks.

Ok-That’s pretty much what I have read from reviewing other posts but in. RV park with Sssllloooww internet and couldn’t get the Ram Trucks sight to look up the vin to verify/confirm the numbers. Do, I reached out the the expertise and kindness of this forum!
Thank y’all for your replies.

Numbers are definitely wrong. You can get the specs through the VIN. It used to be open to the public to do so, but the link has gone dead. Only generalized ones seem available now. Dealer can pull the specific right up, and you should since some options rob the capability. However, all the Cummins/AISIN dually trucks will yank your camper around.
Only the RAM dually with manual trans is lowly rated.

And for those wondering why the manual would have such a low rating it's due to Dodge never updating the manual transmission that was used with the older 5.9L Cummins that "only" produced ~650lbs of torque. On those transmissions the 6th gear is the weak link. Obviously Dodge looked at the number of units being sold and it wasn't worth the development cost to update their 6 speed manual.
