One of the complaints I hear from gas engine owners is just what you mentioned. Some hate the "screaming" engine sound that is related to the high RPMs needed from some of the more demanding climbs. Our old diesel was too loud for me at idle and also got pretty loud on demanding climbs. The gas engine seems to me to have the advantage of being nice and quiet at idle and in lower RPM ranges, with the trade-off of being loud on some climbs. Since demanding climbs are less frequent than flat land cruising and idling, it seems like the engine noise issue is actually better for the gas engine.

Our 2015 GMC diesel is quiet even at an idle. People ask all the time if it' a diesel because of how quiet it is. Since the manufacturers had to start putting emission controls on the diesels it has quieted them down a lot. The catalytic converters they put on them would be what quiets them down so much.

I purchased a 2016 F250 gas, to pull my 5th wheel, going up and down hills the truck was straining. The truck would down shift and engine would rev up. One year later, traded up to a 2016 f250 diesel, no comparison, drives better, less stress driving, and better mileage. Go diesel.

Look at my Sig. Mine, less than a year old with just over 6200 miles on the trailer. I pull and handle just fine with a few suspension upgrades to the truck. I average over 10 MPG, which I think is a moot point as anything towing that much frontal area is going to be lousy mileage. I see others mention engine noise because of high RPM. I believe that is related to gearing as in not enough. Towing I haven't seen the tach go over 3500 RPM even on steep inclines. I can easily pass on inclines and engine noise is a non-issue, it's quiet. I will bet I have more payload than any diesel equipped 3/4 ton truck out there.

We tow our 2020 GD 273 MK with a 2017 GMC SIERRA 3500HD diesel. Had a 2500 and we were overweight on the truck’s payload with just regular camping gear, not long trip equipment. A lot less stress on the driver with the diesel too.

Have F250 SD Crew cab long bed with 6.2 gas. Converted 3.73 rear end tp 4.30. Pull about 10,000 lb. trailer. Looking to get a 260rd within the next year. I will just add air bags at that time. I cruise up many of the hills at 50 mph no problem. I am in Oregon and we have plenty of steep grades to climb. I feel no need for diesel in my situation. I get 6 to 9 mph depending on hills and my foot on the pedal.

We have a 230RL for 2 years now which is almost the same as the 260RD for towing, for the 1st year we used a F150 Supercab 4x4 with 2167 of payload, Air bags @ 15 lbs and LT tires, and it was at it's limits (but not over of the payload), it towed much better than our prev TT Imagine 2150. The only thing that I did not like with the F150 was rough roads, you could really feel the bad bumps.

So the 2nd year we upgraded to F250 (SB CC 4x4 Gas 6.2 with camper package 3200 payload). Now we don't even notice the same rough roads that the F150 had issues with. As for the F250 gas engine performance when you get into hilly areas just lock out the higher gears like 6th or 5th, and maybe 4th for real steep sections and it will climb hills without issues. The engine is engineered to run at higher RPMS when climbing, this will work for both the 3.73 or 4.30 gears. See my signature for full TV details
