    Electric Forced Air

With 50 amp service and RV park electric included in the rent, I've got to wonder about the feasibility of having a electric furnace ducted in. Not to replace the propane furnace, but certainly to switch over when I have the option of not paying extra to run it. Has anyone thought of doing this?

I think the biggest challenge would be finding a smaller unit that wouldn't draw over 30 amps.

I just got one of these to warm up during chilly nights. I was surprised at how well it did. On the first below freezing 27 deg night I was throwing off blankets because I was too warm. If out just occasionally it's a less expensive alternative. If you are out in the cold often I could see the electric forced air as it would warm the undercarriage and tanks too.

We have the factory fireplace (1500W, 5100BTU) in our Imagine. Once I got the airflow sorted out and fixed it keeps the trailer warm down to 40 degrees outside temp before I have to turn on the furnace.

Remember, when you heat the camper and the furnace is not running, your underbelly (plumbing) is not getting heat. Rob's link give an alternative to use electric heat and keep the underbelly warm.

The factory fireplace is great. We turn it on and run the fan only on the central air. Heats the whole camper. We have a couple of space heaters to.

Not sure what AC units you have, but the coleman units have an option for adding heat strips. Not sure how well they will do in really cold climate. I looked at this option, but the factory fireplace does just fine for us.

I've got the cheap heat for about 2 years. I'm sure it paid for itself, I know my back thinks so.
