I use a shop crane to pull mine out. It takes about 5 minutes to remove or install the hitch with it. I can then leave it on the crane and roll it around if it is just a short time or put it on a furniture dolly for long storage.

I do the same. I've done it on the last 2 5th wheels also.

I use the landing gear to drop it onto a roll away platform that I made, then into the garage.

Years ago I saw this option and decided to ask GD if this is a good idea. I was referred to Lippert and was told absolutely not. The reasoning is obviously the weight issue hanging from the kingpin. I'm not an engineer, I don't remember the exact wording but I was convinced to not let it hang there.
I use the method as described by LV Naturist above. I have a son and 2 sons-in-law so there's always somebody availabe to help me those odd times I need the whole truck bed.

I was told the same thing by Lippert. However I can't believe that with all of the stresses put on the kingpin while towing, having a few hundred pounds hang from it while resting would hurt it. I wouldn't be concerned if I had to do it that way.

LCI - the company of "No." If we all had a dollar for every time over the years we have had responses from LCI to not do something......we would all be rich.

Agree - you think about the stresses on the king pin, I can't even fathom that this is a real and valid concern or not engineered to do this and much more. I would love to see a Q/A session with engineering to explain this.

Exactly. That doesn't make any sense at all. You can have 2-3k+ of pin weight, but you can't hang a couple hundred pounds from it? They just don't want the liability of blessing it.

    Hitch storage

Iv'e been thinking of ways to make it easier to load and unload from truck and also where I should keep it stored when not in use. Should it be kept inside my shop/garage or can it be left outside etc? Any suggestions?

    Thanks
We started out with a slider hitch that weighed 280#. Being just the two of us, there was no way we could lift that weight of a hitch. We bought a metal hoist frame and a power winch. Now it is simple to take the hitch out or put back in the truck bed. We just back our truck under the frame, attach the winch, lift the hitch out, pull the truck out, then drop the hitch onto a furniture rolling dolly and store it in a corner of our garage. Works pretty slick and only takes a couple of minutes to remove or install the hitch.
