5th Wheel Hitch Storage?
Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone had ideas about the best way to store your 5th wheel hitch when its not attached the bed of my truck? I have a SuperSlider and of course does have some weight to it. Iv'e been thinking of ways to make it easier to load and unload from truck and also where I should keep it stored when not in use. Should it be kept inside my shop/garage or can it be left outside etc? Any suggestions?
Thanks

When not in use, I put our hitch on a cheap but effective Harbor Freight furniture dolly and roll it into the garage. I prefer to store it indoors out of the elements and potential sticky fingers. The dolly also allows me to easily move it around in case it's in the way of something I'm doing.

I have a chain hoist over a large beam in the garage. Back truck under it... crank up hitch... pull truck out... lower hitch onto some furniture rollers (one for each corner) and push it to the front of the garage. This routine is tedious enough that I pretty much leave the hitch in the truck. I’ve only done it six times so far.

The hoist idea is something I have been considering as well.

Be sure not to hang it on a structural beam in a building without consulting an engineer. The bottom cord of a truss or collar ties for rafters are generally not strong enough to hold even 100lbs as a point load. They can be under tension and if they snap, the entire structure can fail, suddenly and violently.

We keep our 5th wheel in a enclosed storage facility. I keep a Harbor Freight engine hoist with a 6’ extended boom on it. I roll it up, hook the B&W to it, lift it out and roll it out of the way. But, most of the time, I leave it in my truck and close the rolling lid o er it.
