center pivot pin box and backing
Is it my imagination or are these very uncooperative when it come to backing. Seems like I have to straighten out the rig to get going in the other direction....miffed!

Is this your first fifth-wheel? Or are you comparing to other 5ers you’ve backed?

They react differently and don’t respond quickly to inputs like a travel trailer. It’s likely not anything about the center-pivot box but just the geometry of the fifth-wheel connection itself. You’ll get used to it quickly.

When first learning to tow a 5er, pretty much everyone over-jacks when backing making it Impossible to smoothly chase. The only advice I can give is practice, and if you know a pro CDL driver ask them for some lessons in exchange for a case of cold ones, some stellar BBQ, labor favor, or such. One thing to learn, practice and master is the Z technique for backing in.
