    Propane/Oven Question

DW and I are trying to work out some of our camping plans (the Momentum is on order!) and had a few questions about cooking:

    - How effective is the built-in oven? Does anybody have a rough idea how hot it can actually get? Can it be used much like a regular oven at home, or do you have tips on what to expect - and not expect - in its capabilities? (We're completely new to RVing in general.)

    - How difficult is it to get propane off the RV? Do the tanks slide out on a Momentum 380TH, or is it really hard to get to the attachments? Or do you just use a separate tank if you cook with propane? We're considering getting cooking appliances that require propane to run, and need to know what to expect in terms of limitations in where/how we'd used those appliances.

    Thanks!

Your Momentum has a Suburban range/oven, and my Reflection has an Atwood model. But based on my experience, they all work about the same. The ovens are not quite as effective as they are at home because they are smaller and don't have quite the same capability to provide even heating. However with that said, you can still bake most everything in them. One of the things that I do is put a pizza stone in the oven between the burner and the rack. This allows the heat to dissipate and not burn items that are baking on the rack.

Aside from the oven being smaller, it works the same as your oven at home. I also do the pizza stone above the burner, makes it very even cooking, without it due to the oven's size the bottom will always burn.

As for your second question...you would be better off carrying a separate propane tank for outside cooking, this way you are not limited to length of hoses etc. and you do not have to worry about having to connect into the coach's propane system. Personally I carry a 20lb cylinder in the truck when I travel.

I have a question. What is a pizza stone and where do you get one? We will be in our Solitude for 4 months and using the oven and it would be nice not to burn everything.

We got ours at WalMart. It was on sale due this time of year. I would recommend that you take the measurements of the oven with you, so you don't buy a "stone" too large for the Oven. I would send you my measurements but I am away from my trailer.

Preheat, preheat, preheat. It cuts way down on the "bottom burning" issue. The pizza stone idea makes a lot of sense too. Thanks.

Thank you all for your inputs! There's another thing we're thinking about getting, which is a steel plate for pizza. We use one at home, but the downside is they have to preheat for a long time - 45 minutes at home. Have any of you tried using a pizza steel in your RV? I found one that's a little thinner than my home version, so it's a bit lighter weight - which is nice.

    Thanks again! Excitement is building...
