    Winterizing the Black Tank Flush

Is it necessary to fill this line with anti-freeze and if so, how is it done? Thanks.

In 10+ years of owning a trailer with a black tank flush, I never winterized this line. I couldn't as the major length of line was below the one-way check valve and gravity drained into the black tank. Of course I live in Virginia Beach, VA, my winters are not as cold as Canada. We do see temps in the teens and even single digits, but they don't last for many day in a row. One owner says his line froze, and he lives in Virginia about 100 miles north of me.

I did not winterize mine last year and it froze and I live in Fredericksburg, VA area. I would suggest doing it. I am going to do it this year with a hand pump anti freeze kit. Tried blowing out the water last year with a compressor, but that was not enough there was still water in it and it still froze. It was an expensive repair.

Thanks for your suggestions. I think I'll err to the safe side and put some anti freeze in this line - at least past the check valve. It can get below 0 degrees F here. Now all I need is to purchase a hand pump!

I bought my hand pump antifreeze kit at Camping World. Was not that expensive. I definitely plan to put anti freeze in mine this year, don't want another repair bill.

Why not connect the hand shower to the black tank flusher? That gets both winterized in one step.
