Ahhh, the great 350 v 450 debate. I do have a 450 and had never owned a dually before. Knowing the length of the truck grew in 2017 and friends having them, my number one decision on 450 was the turning radius. I can make turns tighter and u-turns where 350/3500s can not. If your looking for all out payload, definitely a 350. 450 brakes are larger, axle housing looks the same but it conceals larger axle shafts. Im not worried about fuel mileage but I get 14mpg@70mph when not towing and 8-10mpg when towing @ 65/70mph depending on terrain and wind heading. The trucks look the same but there are a number of differences. I have a Lariat 4x4 and my payload is 4773. My 450 scales out at 9580 with fuel, tool box and 2 passengers. Your also speed limited to 87mph..

What's your GVWR on the 450? Or aren't there "derates" available on that truck? I can just picture a 450 with a 9900 GVWR package here in SC being limited to a 400 lbs trailer pin weight being something that could actually happen!
I was initially laughing at this, but then I remembered that this is basically my situation. The payload in my 150 and 250 are essentially identical, with the 150 coming out a little "on top" (no diesel being, I'm sure, the biggest factor). But the idea my 150 could carry more than the 250? That is insanity, this truck is so much more capable with a load than the 150 was it's laughable. I didn't realize that the 350 was the "payload king" though, very interesting.

I do not remember if there is a de-rate option for the 450 but its rated at 14k GVWR. I think the sticker GVWR are the same for 350/450 but you lose that extra 500 or so in payload due to truck weight. I don't think we have a higher tax rate for over 10k in Texas but then again, I just pay what they charge. Its not like I'm gonna win that battle. And insurance ( I skipped those previous posts), some companies wont cover it and others make sure its for personal use and not business.

I keep a CAT scale ticket in the glove box proving that my Momentum is within weight limits. Of course the weight goes up and down some depending on how much fuel/water I am carrying. But if anyone accused me of being overloaded I have documentation that says I am no vs their you look fat statement.
I went with the F450 for the 4:30 rear end differential and heftier components. I didn't know about the turning radius until after I bought it. 350 vs 450; you have to look at the whole picture and then decide what is best for you.Dallas
