    Receiver hitch

I have a 2017 28BH. The unit has a receiver on the back but it’s only rated for 300lbs. I want to be able to tow my boat or Jeep behind the RV. Figure I’ll probably have to go to a wedding shop for the mods. Anyone with ideas or experience in that?

Didn't know wedding shops would do welding. On the other hand, I wouldn't double-tow anything behind the 28BH's frame - warranty aside.

I’d think 300lbs tongue weight would be enough. A boat heavier than 3000lbs is likely going to be much too long to legally tow behind a 5th wheel. 20ft for the truck plus about 30ft of trailer behind it leaves you only 15ft of length for your boat trailer before you exceed 65ft.

Pretty sure it is illegal in most states to tow a motor vehicle behind a 5th wheel or trailer.

Boat should be OK, depending where you live.

I know an escapees couple who tow a DRV Elite Suites with either a Freightliner Sport Chassis or a Volvo 740 (don't remember which) and pull a Wrangler behind the fiver. I think he's a retired trucker, though, and the class of the truck may have something to do with it and the DRV weighs around 20 - 22K loaded. I believe they're domiciled in Texas.

Not true, west of the Mississippi there’s only 2 states that don’t allow it, OR and WA and only if it’s a fifth wheel. Some even have an 80 ft limit!

To reply to the OP, is the hitch mounted to the frame and is it a Class 3? If so the 300 lbs only refers to the tongue wt, the hitch is itself rated for 5000#. We winter in AZ and I tow my motorcycle there and back on an open trailer (about 2000#) behind my Solitude, total length is just under 68 ft.

    Let the flaming begin!

I've been towing tandem for over 15 years all over Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah. Totally legal. Never had a major problem. Usually we tow our boat behind the fiver, which is about 4100 lbs total. Also tow a flatbed with ATVs, and sometimes my aluminum trailer with track car on it. This was all with my Wildcat fiver, which will be replaced in a few days with the Reflection 29RS. It will be going to a hitch/welding shop to get beefed up for the extra tow duty it will see. I hope the 29RS handles it at least as well as the Wildcat, which has done well.
