Another hitch question

Hello,
I have an equalizer e4 1400/14000 hitch. I downsized from a heavier trailer to a imagine 2600rb. the tongue weight is only 920# all loaded up for a trip. Is it ok to continue to use this hitch or should I get a lighter one? I searched but couldn't find an answer.

Howdy! The first thing I would do is contact Equalizer and talk to them to be sure. I would hate to tell you to just lower the "L" brackets on the trailer tongue to reduce the amount of lifting weight for a lighter trailer tongue weight. That may not be the right answer.
We used to have an Imagine 2950RL and ended up using an Equalizer 1400 hitch. We initially had the 1000 that the dealership sold us but it was way too light for the tongue weight of the 2950RL (@ 1400# tongue weight depending on how much fresh water we loaded onboard) , we had to upgrade to the 1400 which meant new lift bars and a new 1400 hitch head. That's the bad thing about the Equalizer hitch is the lift bars are matched to the hitch head. 1400# bars needs the 1400 hitch head. 1200# bars needs the 1200# head.

Seems it should be ok but checking with Equalizer as recommended above is wise. We had an Equalizer hitch when we had a TT it is a great hitch. I assume you visited a scale to determine your exact tongue weight. I can see your are an experienced RV person based on the number of states shaded in your signature area. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. I shall contact equalizer. Yes, weighed at scales loaded for a trip & full tank of gas. Looks like I have to decrease the size of the states camped in map.

Heard back from equalizer. They said the 1400 hitch was ok to use. They also said that 1200 bars would fit the 1400 hitch head but it would still be a 1400 hitch.

Just go thru the set-up process again and you should be good. I'd start by lowering the brackets on tongue of trailer down, then remove all but 2 washers on hitch head. If you need more WD, then raise brackets accordingly.
