    Payload on my truck is 3792 lbs. Is "pin weight" 15% of gross trailer weight?

    NO! A 5th wheel will have a pin weight of 20-23% on gross trailer weight. My similar Reflection 337RLS is 22.3%, a pin weight of 2900 lbs when it's ready to travel at 13,000 lbs trailer weight.

    A 311BHTS will have at least 2400 lbs empty and probably about 2900 lbs ready to travel.

    With 3,792 lbs of payload you should be OK with a 311BHTS with 2 people (~400 lbs) in the truck, and 250 lbs of 5th wheel hitch.

    ---------------

    From Grand Design site https://www.granddesignrv.com/showro...orplans/311bhs the estimated weights for an EMPTY 311BHTS, no battery and no propane is:
    UVW =11,185 lbs
    Hitch Weight aka Pin Weight = 2180 lbs (19.5%)
    GVWR = 13,995 lbs

    Is that 3792 from the door sticker, or from Ram's towing guide? As mentioned above, pin weight will be around 20% or more of the GVWR of trailer when loaded for a trip. Definitely get it weighed - there should be no guessing in the equation of safety and within spec of both the trailer and the vehicle.

    3792 is from the door sticker.
    Does any Canadian know if our truck weigh scales allow you to pay to get your trailer weighed?

    I know others are already noting this, but DO NOT trust the chart. You must go by the yellow sticker inside your driver-side door. I made this mistake myself, I was going off the manufacturer's website chart, not realizing that the payload of my specific truck was over 500lbs less that what was noted in the chart. As a result I was grossly overloaded. Your trim and options have a significant impact on the weight.

    Check the payload on that yellow sticker, that's almost always the limiting factor. If your pin weight of the trailer when loaded, plus the weight of all of your passengers, your 5th wheel hitch, any gear you carry in the truck, etc.. is ALL below that payload number, then you're ok.

    to be safe, assume a pin weight of 25% of gross trailer weight. 20% used to be the rule of thumb, but my small 28' 230rl is closer to 25%.

    Let me further complicate, I’ve towed a Solitude 380FL (weighed at 16.5k fully loaded) for 10 months with the same truck You have but a long bed (non-Aisin tyranny) and a fully loaded long bed with tools, generator, B&W hitch, and various tool boxes since early 2019. We’ve got some 15k “tow miles” including 3-times through the Colorado Rockies multiple times. I use cruise at 65-70 and have never “kicked out” of cruise. Yes, I know this dude is back there compared to our previous 22’ Keystone Bullet Premier but this truck is a beast. I think you should be good with the scenarios you are considering.

This is also mentioned in note 7 on the 2017 RAM 3500 HEAVY DUTY TOWING CHART that was attached to one of the posts. It reads as follows:
    "Trailer Weight Rating and Tow Vehicle Trailering Weight are calculated as specified in SAE J2807.Passenger Weight = 300 lbOptions Weight = 100 lbTrailering Equipment Weight: 75 lb for Conventional Hitch, 70 lb for Gooseneck and 250 lb for 5th Wheel.Tongue weight: 10 percent of the gross trailer weight for Conventional Hitch, 15 percent of the gross trailer weight for a 5th Wheel or Gooseneck hitch."

    Adding the weight in again isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just adds a bit more of a safety cushion.
    One cool thing Ram does is you can go to Ram.com and hit the towing section, and enter your trucks vin no and it spits out the towing capability per the vin. Confusion over.
