    DSI Fault on Water Heater

I have a 2019 GD Imagine 2970RL with a Dometic hot water heater. I keep getting the DSI fault signal on the control panel. Everything I read about this relates to gas service. I am running on 50 AMP electric service and have the water heater switch for electric turned on and gas turned off on the control panel. Early today I had water running out of the water heater relief valve which should be an indication of overheating. I turned off the water and electric switch on the control panel. The gas was already turned off. Can anyone give me insight to what is going on.

From reading, Dometic looks to be rebranded Atwood water heaters.
And a DSI light on electric could be from the ECO, high temperature cut off.

I'd guess the water heater thermostat is part of the problem.

Atwood/Dometic has a 2 year warranty on the water heater. You can get it fixed by any Dometic dealer, including mobile service dealers.

    Here’s the troubleshooting guide http://www.beamalarm.com/Documents/a...eshooting.html

FYI, the control boards are known to be prone to early failure. Dinosaur Electronics makes a replacement board that has very good reported reliability. I carry one in my spare parts kit. http://www.dinosaurelectronics.com/UIB-64.html

Look at the excellent Amazon reviews for the Dinosaur board. https://www.amazon.com/Dinosaur-Elec.../dp/B0130Y8I1K

DSI fault problem resolved: It was caused by condensation or water in sleeve covering the heater thermocouple. This caused a short in the Thermocouple. Unplugged thermocouple wire connection and dried out water in thermocouple clear sleeve. Reconnected thermocouple and water heater worked fine and no more DSI fault. Recommend cleaning any corrosion on thermocouple connection. Also apply some addition clear shrink tube over existing clear shrink tube to keep water out.

I’m out on the road, just started a six-week trip. We have the DSI Fault light coming on for both the electric and the gas. No gas start, currently have it turned to electric, to see if it will heat.

I’d like to look at the thermocouple, but don’t know where it is. Can you give me some direction on that? Sounds like the easiest place to start trouble-shooting things.

    Thanks

, Sorry to take so long to reply. Regarding you question, You need to open the water heater door on the outside of the camper(off door side of Camper). On my camper there is a black wire with a clear sleeve over a wire connection, This is the wire to the connection, to the thermocouple. The problem I had was in the connection inside the clear plastic sleeve. Water got inside the sleeve (Rain or condensation. and the connection corroded. I unplugged the connection, cleaned the corrosion off both ends of the connector, and dried out the inside of the sleeve. When I put it back together, I put dielectric grease on the connection to minimize further corrosion. All has worked fine since. It a 5-10 minute fix. May not be the solution to your problem but I hope this helps. Talking with others in our current campground, This seem more common for a DSI fault problem than the a actual thermocouple going bad or the circuit board in the command center going bad. It is also basically a no cost fix if you have some dielectric grease on had.. A few bucks if you don"t

Probably already covered above, but we had the same thing. Found the venturi on the water heater full open. Slide it closed until you get a quiet, blue flame. Be aware, you may need to adjust this for altitude changes. You should barely hear it when your cover is closed and you are 3' away.
