    50 Amp Power Cord Upgrade

Ok, best $15.00 you can spend on your camper this off season. I have the 2950 RL with the 50 amp service. Everyone knows how heavy the cord is and how much downward pressure it puts on your plug while it is hanging on the side of your camper at a 90 degree angle. My locking collar didn't last one season before it split. This is actually very dangerious if the plug is not locked in and were to pull slightly out and cause an ark! I tried to super glue and epoxy it back together but that did not last to long. Finally started looking the other day and of course I found an awesome answer. On etrailer they sell a Furrion aluminum replacement collar for $10.00 and some change, $15.00 total shipping and taxes,
https://www.etrailer.com/s.aspx?qry=...Wiring-pt-Ring. I was worried when I got it how it would install, but you simply just start it at an angle and work your way around and it will pop right on (I did set my cord inside for a few days so it would not be so cold and stiff). I also plan on purchasing a Camco 90 degree adapter so the cord will hang straight down and not have so much tension on the collar, https://www.etrailer.com/RV-Wiring/Camco/CAM55572.html. And then just to be extra safe I am going to purchase another aluminum furrion collar and go ahead and put it on the adapter cord so it will also have a metal ring instead of plastic!

That weight hanging on the plug bothers me too but I have only half heartedly looked for a solution. I wish the would put it in a recess so it at least hangs at a 45 if not vertical.

The good news is that since my cord has taken a permanent set now, It's easy to figure out which way it plugs in.

Camco makes a 90 degree short extension, but it's pretty pricey

I just had the female socket on the side of my trailer replaced at the dealer because it was cracking. When I dropped it off it was about 1/2 way around. I know there is a good amount of weight and I try as best I could to keep a strain relief by hanging the cord off the ground for the first few feet. I don't think it would have lasted long.

    Great find on the ring!

Caution on the Camco adapter. It's not clocked such that it hangs straight down when locked to the Furrion. Gravity works and will spin in and you will have a poor connection that can be significantly damaging! May sound silly, but I just use a homemade prop rod to relieve the stress on the connection.

In another forum someone posted about using a broom-handle clip secured to the side of the trailer to hold the first few inches of cable at the correct position so that it doesn't un-twist the connection to the trailer.

I just want to make sure I get one that is hanging 90 degrees, if not I will send it back. I plan on either getting a large piece of shrink wrap (if they make it that big) or just wrap the bottom straight connection up to make it a permanent connection, no reason to take it apart. You want to talk pricey, check out this mod most people do on marine applications. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouZyi7N8bjo, They don't give a price but I found it and it's like $250.00!

Sorry, I meant to type "Heat Shrink Tubing" and I did find some on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DYZL5YW...v_ov_lig_dp_it

This will make a very nice cover over the permanent connection.

Lol. If you go the route, you need only purchase s roll of self fusing electrical tape. A little dielectric grease on the mating terminals and tape wrap will do it - good enough for underground and aerial splices, good enough for this. Tip for future removal, run a piece of cutting wire below the tape and perpendicular to the way it will wrap.
