    New used truck

Today we test drove a 2017 Ford F350 6.7, CC,LB, DRW 4X4 KING RANCH. We currently have a 2004 F350 V10 CC LB 4X4 SRW XLT. With 13 years of technology advancements between these two trucks, I was expecting the 2017 to ride smoother, more quiet and with more power. It had more power for sure, but the 04 was much smoother and more quiet. And lastly, the ride of the 2017 was stiff and rough compared to the 04. Is this the ride of all DRW trucks?

What are the GAWRs on your 04? What is the GVWR on your 04? I expect the new one is significantly higher for all. They are built heavier now which will translate into a rougher unloaded ride.

    Hello,
My 1977 F250 rides quite a bit rougher than my 2015 Ram Dually.

    Regards,

There are so many variables that it is pretty much an apples to oranges comparison. My 2005 F250 V10 (much higher HP and torque than your 2004) with the camper package (identical to F350 suspension) and a 6" lift, Fox 2.0 shocks, 4.88 gears and 325/65R20 Duratracs rode just as well (maybe smoother) as my stock 2019 6.7 HCTTP F250. Of course the Fox shocks are probably quite superior to the stock FX4 shocks on the new truck. Anyways, hard to make a fair comparison.

As far as the quietness of the cabin, that varies dramatically depending on application. At idle, I sometimes had to look at the tach on my V10 to confirm that the truck was running. It was incredibly smooth and quiet. Pulling a 9,000 pound trailer up a long 6% grade, in 3rd gear, not so much. The diesel makes some noise at idle and in low speed driving...I actually love that about it! The clatter reminds me of what's lurking under the hood! At highway speed, empty or with the fifth wheel hitched up, it's like a vault. It is the quietest vehicle I have ever owned. I loved my V10 and it was a very capable TV but when it comes to the overall towing experience, there is no comparison. The truck is very quiet and the power is effortless. Mine is a Platinum and may have some improvements (laminated glass, extra sound deadening, etc.) over lower trim levels but I'm not sure about that.
