Loose part in fresh water holding tank
Greetings fellow GD'er's
My 320G is in the shop and I had a part fall out of the fresh water drain last time we had it out and worth noting is this was not the first but the fourth time I drained the tank via the high capacity drain valve. I emailed the service rep and sent him a photo of the piece that fell out. He was dismissive and said it was probably a part left in the tank during the build and they would not be able to locate where it came from.
So. This is the tank that holds the water I DRINK. Also, if this part left behind a point where water can leak into the trailer, I am obviously very concerned.
First, anyone run into this? I posted a pic of the part. To me, it looks like a cap of some sort, maybe a tank sensor. Looking for guidance here. If the service dept. is going to stonewall me, I need suggestions on other avenues here to go through. For reference, the size of the piece fits on a penny.
hanks for your time,
Mark

Mark, I can't place the piece in the photo, looks like about 2 inches of copper pipe with some wax around it. Is it wax or plastic? Is it a piece of tubing or solid?
Unfortunately build debris does get into odd places, tanks included. If you are not experiencing any other issues I tend to think it is build debris that has been flushed. It will require more information to convince a service writer that it is anything else, Occam's razor.Dallas

Plumbing fittings are spun welded to poly tanks, and that appears to be a plunge point mandrel - i.e., the part that pierces the tank wall as the friction generated by the rapidly spinning fitting against the tank wall melts the two pieces of thermoplastic together. This type of spin weld tool is used in high production situations so there's a single step. Repair shops and DIY spin weld tools have you weld the fitting on, and then when everything cools, drill the opening in the tank wall through the new port.

It almost looks like a sensor, and if it did fall out you very well could have a leak. Can you post end shots of the fitting?
