2020 f350 diesel srw 4x4 crew cab 8ft box lariat 18" all terrain tires with a gvwr of 12,400lb

they asked what was the weight of the 5th wheel we wanted to tow and i gave them the 14,000lb gvwr of the 337.

They spec'd out the truck on their ford order tools and told me the truck would not be adequate and that i needed a drw.

These are the numbers they used.

    Occupants weight 750lb
tongue weight (25% hitch factor) 3,500lb
    hitch weight 200lb
    truck curb weight 8,000lb
    -------
    gross vehicle weight 12,450lb

we are 50lb over the gvwr by their numbers. They said ford recommends being 15% under gvwr.

The dealer says they will sell me the truck but that i will need to sign a waiver saying they advised the truck was not adequate for the proposed trailer.

Based on 337 pin weights i've seen here on this forum, i think 3,500 is a bit high. I've seen one post that says 3,400lb but most are closer to 3,000. I also think 750lb is a bit high for occupants. For the most part, it's just myself & my wife and maybe a cooler. Ocassionally 2 grandchildren.

My thought is to go to another dealer and purchase the truck with no mention of a trailer. Unfortunately, all my wife heard was "unsafe!".

I know there are people towing 337's with various sized trucks. Some very undersized. How close to max payload is ok? Does it need to be 15% under?

the cost of the drw option is tiny compared to the total sum you're spending. And drw is a smart choice. Rear end wallow is no fun

    Guys and Gal's

He's made his decision, executed the purchase. He's happy, his truck is more than capable of doing what he needs it to do.

    Think it's all good.

Actually, the picture of the cops and the starcraft RV does NOT show the RV on any scales. Showing me a picture of three guys in safety vests doesn't say anything to me, besides there are a three guys and a trailer. Exactly what they are doing is not apparent.

    Thanks,
I found this thread a hilarious way to spend a couple of hours in social isolation. A dealer whose either so stupid or so unethical (both?) that demonstrates why they're called stealers. A fine example of a supposed lawyer making a blanket statement about liability (which no good attorney would) and postings of supposedly American police inspecting American RVs, but actually a picture taken in Australia of unknown guys standing around an RV looking official. And a great example of how this forum doesn't let those who post bull$#!+ go unschooled.

We tow our 2019 Imagine 18RBE with our 2019 Nissan Frontier, (both purchased used I might add). Our truck has a maximum tow rating of 6380 pounds and 1360 cargo weight. No, we are not the fastest rig on the road, but we have a rig which serves our needs for slightly under $40,000. Nobody tried to tell us the Frontier couldn't do it or made us sign any waivers. The RV dealer advised getting a weight distributing hitch, and after taking the rig for a 50 mile test ride, that seemed like good advice and had it installed.

I don’t know what it weighs but the guy next to me has a 40 foot Montana fiver with 4 slides and he towed it here with a 15 year old Nissan Titan which has a gas 5.6.
I’ve owned two of them and there’s no way it should be towing that trailer.

No idea what a 15 yo Titan's ratings are, but it sounds crazy.

Very low. 6500 to 7400 lbs depending on how it is equipped. The diesel wasn't available back then.
I owned a 2005 and a 2008 model and it was scary trying to tow a 5500 lb Uhaul trailer with them.
The guy next to me must have airbags or timbrens but he's still towing a trailer that is at least double the capacity of that truck. And don't get me started on how many morons I've seen towing huge fifth wheels with a Tundra.
