Have my weight numbers on our 17mke

I have never pulled a travel trailer before. I have always had 5th wheels so I need some help with my numbers.

I just picked up the trailer yesterday and weighed on the way to pickup and after picking up the trailer. The following are my numbers.

    Truck without trailer:

    Front axle 3360#

    Rear axle 2760#

    With trailer empty

    Front axle 3200#

    Rear axle 3640#

    Trailer axle 4320#

    The trailer CCC is 1233#

    Trailer dry weight 4762#

I don't know if these numbers are good or not. It seems my truck rear axle picked up a lot of weight. From 2760 to 4320#

    What do you think?

Oh by the way when I got home I started checking and the trailer was not level when hitched up. I had 22" front frame to ground and a little over 25" at the rear. This is on a concrete level driveway. I adjusted the hitch and got it almost level.

One thing I wanted to add is I have 2 grp 31 AGM batteries on the tongue.

Thanks for any help or suggestions

Something is not right that's for sure, your rear axle weight increased by 1,560 lbs. Grand Design has the hitch weight at 428 lbs in their literature.

I agree it sure seems like a lot. Granted my 2 grp 31 agm batteries and the propane tanks added more weight to the tongue but that would only be around 200#. I need to figure this out.

It looks like your rear axle went up 880#. Some of this was weight transferred from the front axle (160#) and the balance was from the trailer (720#). That isn't too far off the 428+200 estimate you made.

That would put your total trailer weight at about 5040# right now, after adding the batteries and propane. Seems reasonable.

What's the rear axle rating on your truck?

And if you're going with dual batteries have you considered 2 6V golf cart ones?

I thought about 2 6v golf cart batteries on our 2450 as I had them in our boat but the golf cart batteries weighted 63 lbs each plus you need to upgrade the charger so I decided against it so far.

Butch do you have a weight distribution hitch? Also in the package from Grand Design was a build sheet (2) with all your serial numbers and 1 sheet that has your weights when it rolled out of the factory. It shows each axle, tongue and total weight of your trailer.

I thought about the 6v batteries but I went with AGM batteries. I just like the idea of if one battery goes bad I at least still have one 12V left. Also I have another grp 31 AGM battery in the bed of my truck. This battery powers my Dometic 12V compressor fridge and the battery is also used to start my Yamaha 3000iseb. I hate the little batteries they put in, it always needs charging even though I run a battery tender on it.

Yes I do have the Equal-i-zer hitch. The packet is in the trailer and it is pouring rain right now. I do remember the 2 sheets from my 303RLS.

I'll say again I think your weights are pretty decent. Nothing too surprising. You just confused your trailer axle weight with your truck's "with trailer" rear axle weight.

I have a question, I thought a weight distributing hitch was supposed to share some of the weight from the rear axle to both the trailer axle and the front axle of the truck? Am I missing something? I lost 160# on my front axle and that also went to my rears. As I stated before as far as trailers go I have always had 5th wheel so this is new to me.

    Thanks
