We had a 16 Chevy 2500 LT SB Gasser, it only had 2604#'s of payload, PullRite hitch weighed in at 200#'s, pin weight of our 17 303 was 2200#'s, so by time we were loaded up with all the passengers and stuff in the truck we were 400#'s over the trucks payload. It struggled a little in the hills, so we traded for a 18 Chevy 3500 Duramax. . . . . much much happier. . . . . .

I see it's your first post even though you joined 2 1/2 years ago. So congratulations on making that first post. It's a good topic that many of us enjoy talking about but often can stray in many different ways. From gas vs diesel, to staying within payload or not, from higher or lower gear ratios, 2wd or 4wd, 2500 or 3500 etc. Before delving into those things can you help answer a few questions? How often do you tow? Where do you plan to tow? Are you looking to tour the country? How fast do you drive while towing? Do you tend to pack heavy or light?

All of these things may influence your ultimate decision. There's a lot of experience here and I don't claim to be an expert but answering these questions will help bring you to a clearer answer. I look forward to the future discussion.

Thanks to all who responded to my questions. We tow long distance twice a year to and from New England to central Fl. Yes we are snow birds. Typically leave NE in October and return in Mid May. Will do several short hauls between Maine and NH during the summer months. Just the two of us so we tend to pack somewhat light. Not been to the scales but I expect we are in the 7800-7900 loaded trailer weight based on our previous TT. The MK 2670 grosses at 8495lbs. Typical speeds are 60-65 MPH max. Have upgraded tires this summer with Goodyear Endurance. Expect that at some point we would do at least one western trip however we have not come up with a plan or route.
