Federal code says you can not have locks on LP compartment doors.

I believe propane doors don't lock as it is against regulations in most, if not all states. If there were to be a fire first responders need to get the tanks out fast. I do lock the bands on my tanks while stationary, but remove them for traveling.

Never had the doors vibrate open in 20 years of pulling 5th wheels. You could always bend the tab that holds the door shut for a tighter fit.

I will have to see about bending them tighter. I had a door come open on the way home from the dealer.

@frank4711 - Frank - some more informative reading on the propane lock issue and fire in Jim's 337 where the fire department removed the propane tanks. Surmise they were not only glad of no locks but it saved Jim complications at best and litigation at worse: (my post #27 has the link to Jim's fire thread.)

Over the years on the forum a number of us have had loose fitting cam locks. Tightening the nut and/or bending the cam abit solved the problem.

Dan Thanks .... I have fixed the curbside door .... the street side had a missing tab and they replaced with wrong cam the tab is straight and does not have the indent to allow pressure when closed .... I will be at their Ft Myers dealership on Friday 21st to complete 2 PDI items that parts need to be ordered for ... I will have it replaced and that should do it ... meanwhile the top cam is good so a small strip of Gorilla tape will ensure that door stays shut while on the move ... once again members provide answers much appreciated ... later Frank
