Helpful DIY tool when parking your RV

I used an old broomstick as a measuring device to aid my wife and I when parking our trailer in tight camping spots. I marked the stick to show how far each slide extends so we can ensure we have clearance from any obstacles. Additionally I put a wire loop on the end of the stick so I can reach the fresh water drain valve without climbing under the trailer to open the valve.

Good idea. Simple but effective, the best kind.

I use a tape measure but i like the broom stick much better. I had this problem a couple of times and both times I had unhooked the trailer and she was level. had to hook up the truck and do it all over. There is so much to watch out for LOL

I use a 3/4 inch dowel and added "hitch height" also. Gets it very close before backing up.

I have a couple sections of pvc pipe with a connector. Together they give the camper height to check for branches overhead and on one of them I have all the slide outs marked to check for distance to tress or obstacles. With the seasonal site I use it is a necessity! https://i.imgur.com/oT9d26f.jpg

I tried a bunch of stuff to measure exactly, kept losing them or they were buried in a bay when I needed them. I finally just stuck my arm out at 90 degrees barely touching the side of the RV, then walked my face into the edge of slide. It hurt, but I now remember where on my face it hurt and can tell pretty close if I have enough slide room simply by extending my arm.

I stand a telescopic magnet on the back of the tailgate when backing up to hitch up to the fifth-wheel hitch. It's like a gun sight to get straight at the hitch king-pin looking thru the center mirror of the truck. The telescopic magnet stands about 12 inch high. KEN
