Yes, and you get the effortless power of the diesel! Your statement implies that capability is somehow related to payload capacity. If you select a truck prioritizing the stickered payload capacity, you will inevitably end up with a truck with less real world capability. Adding capability always adds weight and adding weight always decreases payload capacity. There is no escaping this objective truth.

There are a few different approaches to building a truck. I prioritize components that objectively add to the capability of my truck; the added power of a diesel motor, the utility and increased wheel base of an 8' bed, etc. I made no concessions to weight and my payload sticker is as irrelevant to me as the 10,000 GVWR. Neither say anything about my specific truck. I have chosen to look at each individual component and to not exceed the rating of any of them. That takes a lot of thought and research. Others will build (or select) a truck sacrificing everything to maximize the payload number. Most make compromises that result in a reasonably well equipped truck without too great a payload penalty. Some have no idea what any of it means and blindly select a truck.

Pretty typical for a 3/4 ton diesel.

I have the 230rl and tow it with a 2018 RAM 2500 gasser. It does just fine, slows down quite a bit climbing 7% grades at 11,000 ft in Colorado, but to be expected. Otherwise it has plenty of power to tow the 230rl. I get about 9.5mpg on average.

I have just under 3000lbs of available payload and I've weighed the rig on the CAT scale numerous times. FULLY Loaded (full tank of water, generator in the back, e-bikes, extra fuel, extra water, cab full of gear, etc...) I can come in 2600-2700lbs (but again that's FULLY Loaded and I usually don't travel quite that heavy).

The wheel base is 148in and it is a 6.2 liter gas engine. with all the tow package and trailer sway stabilizer etc. My question is do you see any problem matching this truck to the fifth wheel. anything I should be aware of? Since it has the Turning Point hitch so not thinking of getting a slider. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
We bought a 2020 230RL and are pulling it with a 2019 Ford F-250 6.2L Diesel CC 4X4 Short Bed and I don't even feel it behind me. It tows GREAT! Did type GREAT!? I mean GREAT! I would think the gasser will handle it just fine too.

Here is what I found doing a LOT of YouTube research and Google:

    2020 F250 6.7L diesel with 10800GVWR = 3000 lb payload
    2020F350 6.7L diesel with 11500 GVWR = 3500-3700 lb payload
    2020 F350 6.7L diesel SRW 12400 GVWR = 4200 lb payload

All numbers are approximate, give or take 100-200 lb depending on the trim/options. Only the 350 with 12400 GVWR is 8 ft bed. The other 2 have the short bed (6 3/4 ft I believe).

As for the sticker number, its main purpose in my opinion is CYA. For the unfortunate case you end up in a wreck and them layers start snooping around and throwing at you stuff like “gross negligence” and “grossly overweight” and such, which end up being very very expensive. And btw it makes no difference who caused the wreck to begin with. If you are over the sticker numbers you are the automatic sucker for it all and then some by the time the other party’s layers get done with you.

    Just my 2 cents.

Have you considered a Nissan Titan XD?
I tow a GD 295RLS (Reflection 150 Series 5W ~11,700 lb fully loaded for a week trip) with my 2017 XD, 5.6L Gas Crew Cab 4X4, 6.5 ft bed.
I use the Turning Point in the rear pivot position over a Curt 20K puck system and get 90 degree turns.

I always CAT Scale on the way out of town.
Once I was 120 lb over GCWR due to excessive supplies for a longer than usual trip with Grandkids in tow
And twice over the rear axle weight (truck) by 20 lb. Shifted some tools to the back of the camper to rectify the situation.

It is a very comfortable and stable ride, I feel very safe and have plenty of power for the blue ridge mtns.
I did install air bags prior to the camper purchase.
It takes about 20 lbs to fix the 2 inch squat from the camper.

I had the truck prior to the decision to upgrade the camper, and the numbers did fit, albeit very close.
When it is time for the next truck, I'll go with an F350 SRW, but still use the gas engine.

    Hi mccartne,

I have a new 250 w/ 6.2l on order & we'll soon have a 303 behind it. All the #'s work for this combo for me considering how much we'll carry, etc. I'm pretty sure your bed length is 6ft 8 & 3/4in on the 250, (F-150's get the 6.5 bed) so a little more room between the cab & front cap. Sticking with the turning point will save you the added weight of the slider or auto slider hitch. If you've done your homework & checked that ALL the #'s on the truck fit you should have no issue. Congrats on the new rig & TV!

    Mike,
I don't think the 303 comes with the turning point Pin Box unless GD changed that. The turning point pin boxes only comes with the 150 Series Reflections.
