I have seen and read many of the diesel vs gas comparisons and they are interesting .... I tow with a diesel for the pure pleasure and ease it offers ... I try and save where I can and bought a 8 change oil/rotation package from Ram for $65 per change ... if you camp only 3-4 times a year the new gas trucks are a perfect fit .... later Frank

This Yellow sticker has nothing to do with towing absolutely nothing.. I wish people would stop using that sticker for towing. You use the other white sticker. Please people read the book that came with the truck. Go to the towing section. If you go by the yellow sticker there will never be any trailer you will be able to tow.

Get the correct yellow sticker if you can.
Now back to discussing the 7.3...Last edited by backtrack2015; 03-05-2020 at 06:23 AM.

So did you hand calculate the MPG, or just go off the dashboard display? My F150 was within 1% actual vs displayed, the F250 6.2 is way off.

Noticed yours has 4.30 rear end and this makes truck tow much better at expense of gas mileage, than say truck with 4.10 rear end. Tundras have 4.30 rear end and they will tow; however they like their gas.

My rear gear with the 35" tires works out to 4.09~. One thing you need to take in consideration is the all 7.3/6.7/ and some 6.2 2020 trucks have a 10 speed transmission, 8-10 are overdrive.
I spent quite a bit of time in the overdrive gears. It's not really apples to apples.
Buckskin I see on your photo you have a 2250RK, we had one also and then all the kids(young adults) decided they wanted to come with us. I'm glad they want to come.

With Tundra I usually lock out 6th gear or overdrive as transmissions usually stays in 4th & 5th gears on Interstates. Can't tell much difference in MPG but saves on wear and tear on transmission from shifting all the time. In mountains sometime lock out 5th & 6th gears to reduce amount of shifting.

Hi Nascar9, great write up and many strong points to consider. I do however still believe that although the 7.3 has come so far, its still down to longterm engine life when I decided GAS vs. DIESEL. IMO I have also owned many trucks but for the past 20 years, I'll take my diesel trucks all day long for lifecycle, dependability and motor torque. IMO, I completely agree that the new 7.3 is a competitive truck, but again my purchase will be 70% technical and 30% gut / personal preference. But your posting truly brought to light the competitive changes in trucks, motors, options and possibly new alternatives for future buyers! I love my F450 (-: all day long!

GVWR is 11,300
When you do the math payload is short 221 lbs. I don't know why.
I looked at another CCSB 7.3 XLT it's payload is 4029lbs. very close build to my TREMOR at 3859.
The right stuff
