This September we traveled from Central Texas to Moab and return from Tropic. We traveled Hwy 491 from Gallup to Monticello UT and then to Moab. Hwy 491 was a 2 lane road that was being re-surfaced so it took us several hours to travel because of the starts and stops from construction, but the road was smooth and well marked.
On our return to Central Texas we left Tropic Utah and traveled down HWY 89 to Flagstaff and then IH40 to Albuquerque. HWY 89 gets a little hairy around Kanab Utah to Page Az, lots of switch backs and elevation changes (we were going down, you should be going up) but it was a fairly good road and had a few areas to stop.
From Moab we took UT191 to IH70 to Green River then pickup UT191 to Castle Gate then UT6/UT89 to Provo. Then your able to pick up IH15 and stay on IH15 to Idaho.
I know this isn't the way you requested but it looks like HWY191 from the Tucson area will get you to IH40 near Sanders then you can take IH40 to Gallup and HWY 491 if you find out that HWY191 is more than you wanted. I know we did a bunch of traveling on roads that seemed to be "on the way" but they beat us and the trailer up with stuff flying out of the cabinets, refrigerator and closets.
The drive from Moab to Provo is up and down mountain roads, mostly 4 lane but several areas of 2 lane. Beautiful drive for the passengers but a "white knuckle" for the driver. Be aware of big trucks going real slow up those roads you can get on top of them real quick.
We stayed at Spanish Trails RV park in Moab, Mountain Valley RV park in Heber City (close to Park City and within driving distance to Salt Lake). We stayed in a little RV park in Tropic Utah near Bryce Canyon. Probably the best rv park near Bryce Canyon was Ruby's.
Don't know when your trip is planned for but start getting reservation now. We didn't and if there hadn't been a few cancelations we would have been boondocking everywhere.
Have a great trip.Les and Sharon Bevil

Well, according to my trucker's atlas that highway is driveable by semitrucks. Probably fine for RVs
Part of the way we went to Utah was "drive able" by semi's but our 311BHS bounced and bounced and made the ride very un-comfortable. Semi's are so much heavier than our trailers and are built to absorb the rough roads. I was giving an option based on our recent trip to and through Utah where we picked up a much better road.Les and Sharon Bevil
