    I agree with you I am a B&W guy all the way. I have a ton of confidence with our hitch. I have seen some photos of failures of some of the others after a hard brake event - not good. I am blessed to have the Ford pucks and no need for a slider with an 8’ bed so our B&W is very manageable.

    Pictures tell a story, but not the whole story. Would you care to elaborate the circumstances and please include the size, weight and pin load of that 5W.

    I matters not, a B&W hitch would not have failed....
    But
    A 2015 Momentum 380TH (42' long toy hauler with an empty weight of 15,500 lbs and 2950 lb pin weight)
    It happened at low speed, and neither the truck or 5th wheel had any damage
    An emergency stop,
    Hitch rating
    Rated at 24,000 lbs GTWR and 4,500 lbs tongue weight.

    As I said not the whole story. Those are published dry/unloaded weights you give. That 5W has a GVWR of 19500# and could easily have a pin weight near or over the rated capacity if fully loaded or more if overloaded.

    Even if 19500, it is still under the rated capacity....
    That is the thing with aluminum, when something fails, it is usually dramatic, and quick. Does not bend or give. Just fails...

    And I agree, a picture does not tell the complete story. Still, the design looks to be problematic.. If all you are looking for is light weight, it's your best bet.

    The pin weight of an AUH is 4500#, you said so yourself in the above post. .25 is the accepted fractional denominator for a large (toy hauler) 5W to determine pin weight right? So 19500# x .25= 4875#. Common sense and prudence is also a determining factor. I guess you just look at the tow capacity of your truck and if the published weight is under you call it a day and don't bother to consider the payload.
    As an aside I have seen steel buckle and crumple like that several times in industrial accidents. It looks to me like the aluminum bent and gave. It also looks to me like the puck failed so maybe that was the weak point that started it.
