I used two cup hooks and a small bungy cord hooked to the top inside of the door. Seems to work fine and was a cheap fix. I think the door should have been hinged on the left side as I have to stand on the top of the stairs in order to see the gauges anyway..

We are in Elkhart now for the upcoming rally. We visited Grand Design yesterday about some repairs we need to have done while we are here. They were all very amused that the Owners call this the death door--they had not heard that term before! We asked if anything has been done to improve this problem--sadly, no. Even the poor techs have hurt themselves on that door! Just an interesting FYI....

See I have been pondering the prospect of moving the side hinges to the top, so it opens up against the ceiling. Then getting one of those small cabinet shocks to hold it up, when in use.

If I had a dollar for every time I have walked into that dang door in the last 3 months, I would have free camping for the year... LOL. Seriously, I do it every single time I open that dang door!

My only concern has been filling the side holes, to keep the door looking presentable. Have even considered seeing if a could buy a new door, without the hinge holes. Then I could easily drill hinge holes in the top and make it open up, instead of sideways.

Solution; I took the door off. It was just a nuisance.
I put the hinge screws back in the holes.

Two ideas that I am going to look into. Move the hinges to the left side and get some that allow the door to open 180 degrees. This would put the door up against the kitchen cabinet and it would be out of the way. Second, put the door on sliding hangers so it would slide to the left (again, up against the kitchen cabinet). Just some ideas to ponder . . .

If I smack my noggin on that stupid door one more time, there won't be a door anymore. Should have moded it by now, but got lazy.

You guys are a hoot on this silly door !
I have a similar problem on my boat. I attached a light dangling ribbon to the lower corner. This is easy to see when the door is open . . . which reminds me to either duck, or close the door.

I have also had my share of encounters with the "death door". While on a trip fellow camper said he fixed it with a small bungee cord. It works great. I used 2 screws and crimped bungee hooks onto screws with neele nose pliers. Not very tech savy couldn't find where 2 attch pic
