Titan SV, 2600rb, CAT Scale weights

    There are 4 sections:

    1) Truck and hitch setup, Trailer.
    2) CAT Scale weights.
    3) Results from towing planner.
    4) Max weights compared to actual weights. This is the fun section.

Section 1 - truck and hitch setup, trailer.

2018 Nissan Titan SV 4x4 crew cab with Roadmaster Active Suspension HD set at 40%.

    2020 Grand Design 2600rb

Equalizer round bar WDH, 1000# bars, 5 ½ washers. This is the front fender measurements when adjusting the hitch.

    Truck only 36 ½"
    Trk/trlr no bars 37"
    Bars w/ 5 ½ washers 36 ½"

With 5 ½ washers I was able to get the weight distribution set so I came back down to the measurement I started with, giving me the most weight distribution without going over.

Section 2 - CAT scale weights.

    Truck only w/ 2 passengers.
    Stear axle 3480
    Rear axle 2620
    Total 6100
    Minus passengers 330
    Actual truck weight 5770

Truck only loaded for camping w/ 2 passengers.
    Stear axle 3460
    Rear axle 2860
    Total 6320

Truck and trailer, no weight distribution.
    Stear axle 3100
    Drive axle 4060
    Trailer 6020
    Total 13180

Truck and trailer, weight distribution bars installed.
    Stear 3400
    Drive 3600
    Trailer 6160
    Total 13160

Section 3 - Results from towing planner.

    Gross combined weight 13160
    Truck/trlr w/ WDH 7000
    Truck/trlr, no WDH 7160
    Truck only 6320
    Trailer 6860
    Tongue 840
    Tongue % 12.2%

Section 4 - max weights compared to actual weights. This will be listed as:

    Max weight, actual weight, (difference/under)

    Nissan Titan
    Stear 3800, 3400, (400)
    Drive 4012, 3600, (412)
    GVWR 7300, 7000, (300)
    GCWR 15300, 13160, (2140)
    Tow capacity 9230, 6860, (2370)
    Hitch capacity 923, 840, (83)
    Cargo capacity 1488, 1390 (98)
    Actual tongue %, 12.2%

    Grand Design 2600rb
    Combined axle 8800, 6860, (1940)
    GVWR 7850, 6860, (990)

In conclusion, full and ready for camping including 3 nights worth of firewood but no fresh water. All weights are below the maximum allowed although some by just a little bit. Both me and Mrs skreef thought it towed decently but I do feel the 2600rb is at the upper limit for what my truck can tow.

Great post. You obviously did your homework and going about getting the 3 CAT scale weighs. I haven't done the TV/TT w/o WDH engaged yet. This is just my personal option, and take it for what it's worth... If you tow 7k plus and 30' feet plus, get a 3/4 ton. That feeling you are currently experiencing with your current setup will go away with a 3/4 ton. I'll probably catch heat from others on my opinion. The 3/4 ton is heavier and bigger brakes. You can try to put on LT tires to replace p-rated tires. I did that last fall and the ride is much better.

    Safe and happy travels.

I totally agree, a bigger truck would be better. Unfortunately the truck came before the TT idea. The truck still has 90,000 miles of bumper to bumper factory warranty (3 mile round trip commute to work) so we will stick with it for a while. Me and Mrs skreef are just weekend warriors. By the time the 90,000 miles comes and goes the truck will be paid for and we'll be in a much better position to upgrade the truck.

Was just glad it really did fall under all the max ratings (like I had calculated) and sure glad we didn't opt for the bigger, heavier TT the first dealer tried to sell us (without caring about our TV)

I'd consider LT tires and even upgrading OEM shocks to Rancho or Bilstein. We're weekend warriors too, but are looking to make longer trips.
