    Propane generator

I have a built in propane generator in the front facing storage bay in my 384 GK-R. Wondering if it is safe to run overnight while sleeping to power res fridge, cpap and ac.

I dont see why not. We've run our gas generator overnight while sleeping numerous times, no issues.

As long as your generator has the proper exhaust system and it extends out from the underside you should be fine.

Yep I do it on occasion as well. If it's a factory install you should be good. If it's a dealer install make sure they put the rubber seal around the outer lip of the generator box and sealed up the holes for the electrical wires etc, ask me how I know

Propane runs much cleaner than other types of fuel but you still don't want that exhaust in the RV

Someone on irv2 responded to this question stating that I'd burn through a full 30 lb tank in one night. If true, that would be a deal breaker. Any thoughts on propane consumption running res fridge, cpap, and bdr ac?

Mine will run about 8-10 hours on a 30lb tank at a pretty good load, both AC'S lights etc. That also would be running the RV fridge and water heater on propane too. The LP generators do drink like a drunk sailor on shore leave lol but they are sure nice to have when you need it. My Solitude will take 2 40 pound tanks so I use those, that helps.
P.S. my apologies to any naval people on here

This is a good argument for installing solar with a large battery bank.
If we had an LP powered generator and ran it everyday, which would be mandatory since we’re full time, we’d spend a minimum of $6k a year on LP and a more realistic number would be $9k a year.
We spent about that on our solar and have been boondocking for 2 years and can easily continue to do so for another 10 years, without running a generator.
Way cheaper in the long run!
Plus the added benefit of not having to “start” anything, remove and transport tanks to have them refilled, smell fumes or scare away Mother Nature.
Plus those generators aren’t free, you’re paying about 6 grand for it, even if you never use it.
And it weighs several hundred pounds.

I’ve pretty much discarded the idea of running the generator overnight. Solar is off the table at least for now cuz we’re already a little overweight and I can’t think of any way we could get sufficiently underweight to provide room for solar. Plan to look into battery for cpap and see how well the fridge does being turned off overnight and doing without ac.
