    Expandable hoses

My wife and I are just re-starting RVing after about a 10 year hiatus. In that time these new-fangled expandable hoses have gone on the market. I'm referring to the ones where a 25ft hose shrinks up to practically fit in you your pocket when not under pressure. We use them at home for gardening but were wondering if we could use one for the fresh water supply for our new travel trailer (2500RL). The hose would be dedicated to just the RV freshwater and nothing else. We do not plan to drink water from the tap. We have an Alexapure water filtration system that we will use for all drinking and cooking water.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Use a pressure regulator at the campgrounds spigot & it should be fine.

I had a couple of those Pocket Hoses and they didn't last that long. I got these

They don't shrink but they are easier to have and stronger than the PH

Those are the same ones I use. I really like how easy they are to stow away and seem to be made out of a similar material as fire hoses.

Do they come shorter than 50ft? Do you think we really need one that long?

I have both a 50 and 25 foot hose in my camper. I used to have a couple of 25' standard garden hoses in my trailer and was surprised at how often I had to connect both to reach the water. Since the 50' was only $7 more than the 25' foot I went ahead and bought a 50 and 25.

I use the Zero-g hoses. The make a blue version that is safe for your portable water. We have both a 25' and 50' of the blue hose. I sure the 25' black zero-g that I use for the black tank flush. I've had these now for over 2 years with no issues. They are not pocket size but take up very minimal space and are very easy to roll up.

We also have them, 1-25' & 1-50' purchased at Home Depot. We have used them full-time for 2-years and 1-year prior as heavy recreational RV'ers. They have held up well and I love how easy they store. I typically leave the 25' connected in the water bay and pull the other end up into and store in the bay when traveling and the 50' takes up very little space in a Rubbermaid tube.

We the Zero - G for several years with no problem. Walmart use to carry them but haven't seen them there this year. Excellent in cold weather unlike those white ones that are almost impossible to roll up in cold weather. They take less space to store also. You can roll up like an extension cord; hand over elbow method.

We use the Zero-G hoses as well. According to packaging, the blue is marketed for marine/boat use. Regardless of color, all packaging claims to be lead free and drinking water safe to FDA standards. (You can go to Amazon and pull up the side view of the package, roll the magnifier view and read for yourself). We own about 10 of these, and I’ve only had one ever fail. The good quality rubber or “professional” hoses just got too heavy to haul around about 10 years ago. I look for them on sale (usually at Lowe’s) but mine came from HD, Amazon, and Walmart. Two 50’ers fit in a dairy crate in the basement. One last note, I really, really, abuse these hoses and they’re still going strong!
