Ok thanks. That’s what I’m hearing from others as well. I have a 100W solar for battery top-off, so as long as I keep disconnect off when storing it shouldn’t be a problem.

I’m taking the rig out for a 4-day boondock this weekend so I’ll put the new monitor (and higher capacity 6V battery bank) to the test!

This is how I connected my wires. Used the heat shrink connectors that have solder in them. Hooked up only the 4 wires and not the shielding. Tried it out and it works. Parasitic load was.13. Now I will run the wire and install the meter in place. Click image for larger version.

Oh I like those connectors, didn’t even know about them! I just followed a guy on YouTube’s recommendations for these gel crimps and they seem to work ok.

Out here in SoAZ (Las Ciénagas Conservation Area) boondocking and everything seems to be working great! I’m loving the ability to see my amperage (in and out) and battery percentage!Click image for larger version.

I had to extend the 2m cable that came with it, using a 26/4 shielded cable that seemed to match up quite well with the factory cable. Other than that, the install was quite straight forward.

When I powered the unit on and set my battery parameters (also straightforward), the display continues to blink and indicate a positive amperage as if it is charging. There is a plus sign on the display to also indicate a charging condition. My solar charger nor converter are currently connected so there is no way positive amperage could be seen by the battery/monitor. In addition, the displayed amperage is alternating between ~1.4A and 2.8A (both positive). There seems to be a problem...

I verified the shunt connections to the battery and chassis are correct. The only thing I can think of is that my splicing of the cable (twice) has a bad connection. Each location has five gel style crimps...one for each of the four 26ga conductors and one for the stranded shield. Perhaps I wasn’t supposed to splice the shielded strands together? I basically took the strands from each cable and spun them into “wires” and used the gel crimp to tie them together. Is that how to splice stranded shielded cable like that?

I tried to contact the seller thru Amazon but they are in China so who knows. I thought maybe someone on here has had a similar experience? Or my splicing is bad?

John, which monitor did you install? The round one or square?

Sorry Jeff I missed this post. Yes, it was the round AiLi monitor off Amazon with the 350A shunt. I drill a 2-1/4" hole through the "floor" of my bedside closet and that pretty much drops straight into my pass-through storage "basement". Other than having to redo the splices, it was a very straightforward install.

We did 4 nights boondocking and it worked flawlessly.
