Another GD Newby Question

Our 351M has a generator and my question is, I keep it plugged into shore power when not using but when I run the generator once a month should I unplug my shore power? I have never had a gen on a camper before and after thinking about it and listening to you GREAT folks I am glad we got it. I just don't want to do anything to mess anything up.

It wont hurt. The auto transfer switch installed in the Momentum uses the generator power as its preferred source, so if shore power and generator are running, the power will be provided by the generator. I try to keep very little load when switching power sources, not sure if it matters, but I dont think having it auto transfer fully loaded is the best idea.

I wouldn't. Just turn the breaker off above the plug, then start the genset. I was told it's hard on the transfer switch (back in the early 2000's).

The picture below is from the Surge Guard brochure. Surge Guard auto transfer switches are installed in the Momentum. The brochure makes it seem like it's ok to have both sources energized. The ones in the picture are their base model, all the models above those have at least the same features, but include more.
