Thinking About Modifying Level Up
After living with the Level Up system for almost a year, I have a love/hate relationship with it. The mechanical side seems well built and very capable. As with most hydraulics, it will probably last forever.
The controller, on the other hand, is well maybe not so great. For the person that wants to push the auto level button, it works great... Until it doesn't (lots of threads here about why does it do what it does). I personally use it in manual mode all the time. That's just the way I am and I just never took the time to learn the nuances of somebody's thoughts when they wrote the firmware. Also, the level point doesn't seem to be as accurate as the digital display leads us to believe. The stored level point seems to drift meaning that dead level one day is not the same as dead level on a different day. That is totally understandable with electronic sensors that are susceptible to temps and other things. Add to that the fact that since I power that controller from the other side of the battery switch now, it doesn't remember what level is anyway. So now, when I go to use the system I have to scroll through menus to get to manual mode and level the rig with a bubble level anyway.
So I'm thinking that maybe the solution is to remove all of the automatic control and replace it with manual switches. For me, it would be easier to use and maybe in the long run make it more reliable. The electronic control will probably be the most likely part to fail.
This is what happens when I have too much time to think. What think all of you?Roger, Stacy and the Sophie the fur kid

I think u have too much time on your hands. I think in your past life u were an engineer? I think u need to learn to use this system properly. I think it is the number 1 thing I like about my camper and I very rarely use the manual mode. But whatever floats your boat

I agree with @Clanker24 - I think you have too much free time to think! I had electric leveling on my Reflection and hydraulic on my last Solitude. Those systems, along with my auto aiming satellite dishes, were the coolest systems on the RV. I never had a problem with either of them.
I think the key to getting good results is:
1- Calibrate the system when you first get it
2- Park in reasonably level sites
3- After unhitching from the truck, don't push any buttons on the control panel other than "Auto Level"
I will say I don't check after each auto level to see if it's exactly level. I do suffer from OCD but I don't care if it's out of level by .1 degree or whatever. I also understand there are limitations to the system. If you park on a site that is way out of level, there are limits to what the system can do.
There are plenty of other things to fiddle with on the RV. Pick one of those :-)Brian & Kellie

You are absolutely correct. In our current social environment we have a lot of time on our hands. And yes, in a past life I was an engineer. In my current life, I design and build onboard and support equipment in the utility helicopter world. I also fly the equipment that I build, so reliability is the first priority and I'm always asking "what if that part fails?".
And also yes, sometimes I wish I could turn off my brain. 😬

Maybe you could redesign the electronics on the RV fridges. I had such bad luck getting them to maintain temps without constantly fiddling with the temp controls that I gave up on them and switched to residential fridges.

@bertschb
You are also correct. I've not had any problem with mine yet either except...
The way the battery switch is set up, I can't use auto level anyway.

Man, that's no good! After all the years I screwed around trying to get past RV's level with blocks of wood and other gadgets, the auto level system always puts a smile on my face when I arrive at a campground.
Maybe with your spare time you can re-wire your batteries and cut off switch. I'm going to do that with mine when it arrives Monday.Brian & Kellie

I over think everything ... it is a curse I have learned to control somewhat .... I messed up my auto level on a previous rig by not paying attention to the buttons I pushed not hard to fix but now when I turn it on I have "laser" focus .... push the correct buttons it works flawlessly ... but everything does have a place I just have not gotten it all there yet!!
