Gvwr 315rlts
Hi Folks,
I was just looking at the Grand Design website, and it looks like they bumped the 2020.5 315RLTS GVWR from 10995 to 11295. Anyone heard of this?2019 GMC 3500 SRW Sierra Denali Duramax

Interesting. Definitely a HEAVY bumper pull trailer. Should be pulled by a 1-ton ideally (SRW works fine for a TT hit or miss for 5ers).

If you ask me, the 315 should have been built with a 12,000 GVWR.

That would be a pretty insane weight for a bumper pull! Would need to bump up to 6k axles probably, the 5200s wouldn't cut it. Practically, the pin weight can't really be higher than about 1500# due to limitations on the hitch receiver on most trucks. That would place a GVWR right at or around 12000.

If you would be using a truck capable of pulling this trailer a Class V hitch would still handle this weight. My Class V on my 2019 RAM 3500 is rated to over 2000 lbs load carrying and weight distribution. There are some WDH that are rated to at least 1700 lbs as well so that would not be an issue.

Just an FYI for anyone who is interested they are readily available through Reese at the following link.

I have seen others as well. I think most manufacturers are going with higher weight capacities for these heavier trailers.

The BlueOx is rated at 2000lbs. And I have seen a WDH that is rated for 3000lbs. Our tongue weight is at 1700lbs with no water in the tank. If we had a washer and dryer and full water tank, we would be pushing 2000lbs. Also, the Momentum toy hauler travel trailer has a 12000lb GVWR.

This thread brings up a question on which I've been getting conflicting opinions. I have a 2020 315 RLTS that I'll be pulling with a 2011 Ram 3500DRW w/ a Cummins 6.7L diesel, 68RFE xmsn, 4.10 axle and a Class IV hitch. I've been told that I both do and don't need a WD hitch (mainly due to the class IV hitch). What say the jury here?
Sad trailer this week
