Most tow vehicles also provide some charging to the batteries while traveling.

    Yes Jay
It's not enough to keep up with the draw of the refrigerator and other phatom draws, but close. KEN

Not sure if you figured it out, but goto the settings in the Victron connect app, not the settings for the BMV-712Click image for larger version.

I also remembered the formula to convert Fahrenheit into Celsius and back again...

    Water boils at 212 F and 100 C. Water freezes at 32 F and 0 C.

    Temp in (F - 32) x 5 / 9 = temp C.

    Temp in (C x 9 / 5 ) + 32 = temp F.

    Here's the other one I remember..... 82F = 28C. Oh, and -40 is the same in F and C.

I'll check it out on Saturday. The Solitude is at the campground waiting for us to come back from working all week.

    Thanks, KEN

You can actually change that setting without being near the camper as long as you have your phone or tablet with you. Since it's for the Victron connect app, you dont actually need to be connected to change it. It will apply the new setting the next time you connect to the BMV-712.

Settings on the app have been adjusted. That's different to need to set the setting on the app, instead of the monitor. KEN

So far the discussion has been the draw using lithium batteries. I wonder how much charge would remain after a 5 hour drive with two lead acid batteries, and the truck recharging at the same time (yes I know it's a low level charge).

Most trucks can provide up to 30 amps of charging power (so about 360w). That should comfortably cover the idle draws of a trailer including the residential fridge. As a datapoint, my entire trailer including residential fridge, wifi network, some other odds and ends, idles right around 200w continuous. That would be about 16 amps @ 12v. If you have 300w solar (and its sunny) as well as tow-vehicle charging, you should have plenty of power to not drop the battery charge level while on the move. You will however burn through a standard pair of dealer provided deep cycles (aka CHEAP) easily in a night with that draw. I see about 2.5 kWh used from sun down to sun up in my trailer when it is just idle. To support that with lead acid deep cycles, you would need 400Ah of 12v minimum (to keep above the 50% discharge level). FYI, that is REALLY heavy. I would recommend switching to Lithiums if you can - Costco has a nice deal on Lion Energy Safari UT1300s right now, $1400 for a pair of their batteries. That would provide the needed juice and recharge much more efficiently and quicker than lead acids.

You can also rewire the factory installed WFCO inverter pretty easily to power the whole circuit including several other useful outlets, not JUST the refrigerator - if that is of interest. Here is what that looked like for me trailer. I was able to power all of the outlets on Breaker "1" with the simple change described. Gave a nice quality of life in the trailer for rest stops or a quick overnight without having to run the generator.

Does not have to be. I'm quite certain 450s have to have higher amp output alternators and multiple alternator configurations available... Perhaps an avenue you haven't thought through yet?
