We worked at Yellowstone for one season. It was wonderful being in the park for 5 months. At the time, they had a great employee campground. If you are retired, I highly recommend it. Originally from Ingram.

Last August we left Rhode Island for Yellowstone. Gettysburg-Football Hall of Fame-Indy- then we went RT 80 to Rt 90 Mount Rush M- Deadwood-Badlands. We stayed in West Yellowstone Grizzly Park which is very nice and the town of West Yellowstone is a nice small town with nice restaurants, shops, horseback riding etc. When we left we went south to the Grand Tetons which is also beautiful.
    Enjoy

Thanks for the information, We are planning on about the same area's. Is the west side of Yellowstone a nicer area to stay? Also planning on heading south after Grand Teton down to Colorado Springs then head back home on I70.

Agree with below on Fishing Bridge. Not great as a campground but great base to tour Yellowstone. It closed in mid September and we had to move to Cody as we were not done with Yellowstone.

The west side was the only side we saw. We wanted to check out some of Montana so that would put on the west side. The only RV park inside was closed last year for repairs so we had to stay outside of the park. After we left the GT we went south to Utah.
We had a travel book given to use by a friend that has been RVing for a long time called The Next Exit that we found very helpful.
    Good luck.

We stayed at Rainbow Point campground, another beautiful ACOE campground, just north of West Yellowstone. We used that as our basecamp for touring Yellowstone NP. We chose that location due to visiting a friend in western Montana, and it was a good route to then head south to the Tetons from.

Our route from Iowa was mostly I-90 and we stayed in eastern South Dakota at Lake Vermillion campground, very nice.
From there to 2 night in the KOA in the Badlands, just outside the park, tighter spots, but we were not there much as there is a lot to do and see in the Badlands.
Next was 2 nights at Rafter J Bar in the Black Hills, western SD. As others have said, could have spent a week here not seen half of what there is to see. Set up camp and then take the Iron Mountain Road for sure, also go up Mt Coolidge. Don't even think about towing on either though
After that, West Yellowstone for 3 nights as basecamp for Yellowstone NP. Unfortunately, we did not tour the areas outside of the park, it was a beautiful area around Rainbow Point.
Then 3 nights in Grand Teton, at Coulter Bay. We managed to drive right in and get a site, this was in late June last year.

Any of these places are worth a whole trip, but we were trying to pack a lot in a couple weeks.
We booked it home across Nebraska on I-80 after the Tetons.

We had great stays at all of the above mentioned parks.
