F150 to F250

In the process of trading the F150 for a F250 and giving up spark plugs for glow plugs. The 2970 is right at the top (maybe even a little over) the limits of the 150. Trips to the local campgrounds aren’t a problem, but a trip “up in the mountains” of east Ky really showed the need for a more capable truck.
Local dealer found what I’m looking for a couple states away and is working on a dealer trade to get it here. Going from a ruby red xlt to a rapid red lariat.

I highly recommend you look at a F350 diesel instead of a F250. I typical F250 diesel will be real close to your F-150 payload. A F350 will give you about 3500 lbs of payload vs 2100 for a F250 diesel. A F350 will future proof you in case you decide to go for a 5th wheel in the future.

Agree with what Rob said. My 297RSTS maxed out my Tundra. Never had trouble towing with it, stopping or felt unsafe but went to the 3500 to future safe me. The 2500 would only have given me another 600 lbs of payload for virtually the same price as the 3500 which gave me 2500 lbs more payload.

I agree with the above advice 100% Pap. I pulled that exact trailer with a '17 F250 Diesel Lariat and it did fine but that trailer has a heavy tongue weight. I upgraded to the smallest Reflection 5th wheel (28BH) and it pretty much maxed out the F250. Mine had a payload per door sticker of 2200 pounds and the pin weight on the 5th wheel was 1800-1900 pounds. If you ever plan to upgrade and we all do then get the F350, you'll have much more cushion for the future. Just some friendly advice.

We have discussed a 5er one day, but that will be after retirement and probably after this truck has enough miles to be looking at trading again.

Perhaps you rode in a F350 with OPTIONAL Heavy Duty front suspension.

If you drive a 250 and 350 short beds with standard front springs at the same time I doubt you will be able to tell any difference in ride when unloaded. I couldn’t. The rear extra leaf on the 350 doesn’t come in until you have 2000 lbs in the bed.

The only thing that affects ride is the OPTIONAL 5900 lb Heavy Duty or snow plow front springs. My 2017 F350 CCSB had HD front suspension and my 2019 F350 has standard front springs. The 2019 F350 rides noticeably better and rides just like a 250.

Saying all of this a F250 will handle your current trailer with ease.

This is the exact same conclusion I came to. I also have Fox shocks coming for my F250 next week and I'll give you an update on the ride.

Never really had the urge to get a 5er but my wife likes the amenities and told me that we're getting an F450 if we ever get a 5er. Can't argue with the wife.

Update: Stopped by my local dealer and my new truck was in the clean-up bay, we do the paperwork in the morning.
As I was giving it a quick look-over, I noticed the payload sticker said 2828 pounds, I should have plenty of capacity if the DW decides we need more camper before it is time to trade trucks again.
