    Fifth wheel hitch

We have a Curt 20K fifth wheel hitch. Not happy with it, sometime it is a chore to disconnect from the trailer. You can not pull the handle to disconnect from the trailer. I stretch a bungy strap around the handle and move the trailer back and forth, and sometime it disconnects fine.
What type hitch is everyone else using and is anyone else have the same problems ?? Thanks Ed

Are you sure it isnt the method you are using? I have a Curt hitch as well and until I learned how to really use it, it was a big hassle to unhitch.

    What I do:
    -wheel chocks in place
-lower front landing gear until you see the weight "released" from the hitch
-place truck in neutral, let foot off the brake, place back in park
-unlock hitch and pull the handle

I use an Anderson ultimate. I know on a class 8 fifth wheel, what you're describing is what happens when they are out of adjustment. Not sure if your fifth wheel has any adjustability.

I have a Curt 20 K and it works flawlessly. You may just need to spray it out with cleaner and then lubricate it.

Thanks, I am using the 20K hitch not the 16K. Sometimes it releases fine and other times it is a struggle to disconnect it. How do you get the US map also on your bio? Ed

We use a Husky hitch, struggled with similar issues until we learned to take pressure of the hitch as described ie stabilize the trailer with chocks and raise the king pin till you see some daylight, allow the truck to roll a bit by placing in neutral so it doesn’t bind and it disconnects every time. We were new to fifth wheels and just needed to get the hang of it.

B&W Companion and what you describe is why I went with the B&W. I've watched so many people both friends and camp neighbors fight the un-latching. I've not had that issue and if the jaws don't open, as long as the handle is in the release position, just drive out and it will release. Simple and easy.

I used the B&W Companion for at least 30,000 miles and never had a problem unhooking. It’s a great hitch.
