Some updates to my last post... 2020 F350 CC Lariat w7.3. 3.73 rear end. I recently towed my 28’ fifth wheel at 9000lbs towing a second trailer with a RZR. It weighs 2200lbs. I confirmed the weights on a CAT scale. I towed this combination 4 times with a total mileage of 1000. The first 250 miles I got just under 8.5 mpg at around 65mph. The rest was just over 7.5 mpg at closer to 70 mph. I let the truck use all the gears for the first 400 miles but eventually locked 9 and 10 out. It towed fine in all gears and shifted smoothly but in the hilly sections it was shifting in and out of 9 and 10 a lot so I locked them out. I also drove 500 miles last weekend with the cruise at 72. I got 15.3mpg. All mpg’s were hand calculated.

I can second mac’s numbers for my setup. I’ve got the 7.3 with the 4:30 rear end and I’m towing the 31MB. I have towed it a little better than 400 miles and I averaged right at 9mpg with a fair amount of hills on the trip home from the dealer. I maintained right around 65mph on the highways. The truck only has 1500 miles on it is it’s not broken in yet so maybe slightly better mpgs down the line? Who knows. I will say though, the truck did incredible across the board. Getting up to highway speeds and passing was awesome. I was really impressed. Overall I couldn’t be happier with my early results from this engine and axle combo.

2020 F350 STX short bed 4x4 I have about 1800 miles on the truck with about 650 of that towing. Pulling a 2020 240rl guessing weight is between 8500 and 9000 lbs. max speed towing is 65. Average between 8.3 and 8.5 towing. Average for all miles on truck is around 13.8.

I travel with my brother , he is pulling a 29rs with 2017 F350 2wd long bed , 6.2. He is getting the same gas mileage as I am.

Thanks folks - as you get additional information, please post. I appreciate all the information. This is going to be a tough choice. I did learn extended warrentee is about 50% of the 6.7. With the 6.7 it is a must have.

I have an Imagine XLS 22RBE. I recently traded my 2017 Ford F150 5.0l, 3.31 rear end and 6-speed transmission, for a 2020 F350 7.3l, 3.73 rear end and 10-speed transmission. I forsee a future trailer upgrade. With about forty miles of trailer towing I averaged 8.9 mpg. Combined with a little unloaded highway and around town the computer says 11.6 mpg. Just finished a 4100 mile trip to the west coast with the aforementioned trailer and averaged 10.9 with the F150 cruising at 60 mph. Looking forward to a real work out for the new truck.
As for towing the Imagine trailer...no challenge. The F150 was often running near redline up steep grades in second gear. I guess only time will tell. Love the F350 and the 7.3l V8.

I agree, extended warranty (or really deep pockets) is absolutely necessary with these new diesels. Extended emissions systems warranty is just as important.

That being said, I want one again.....
