    Clearance Issues

I have a 2019 F-350 short bed SRW with an Andersen Ultimate 5th wheel hitch. 2020 Solitude 344GK with a Trail Air Rota Flex pinbox. My problem is if I have the Andersen pin receiver facing forward the pinbox hits the tonneau side rails on a moderately sharp turn. If I reverse the pin receiver the rig will hit my truck cap on a similarly moderate turn. What should I do? Change pin boxes? Change the hitch? Get a long bed dually? I’m open to suggestions. By the way, we are newbies.

First off. With a RotoFlex and Andersen it requires a lockout kit to prevent hitch or truck damage. See link below.
    https://andersenhitches.com/Products...ckout-kit.aspx

I run a F-350 SRW W/Reflection 337RLS. I have the coupler in the reverse position and can get 75 degrees of turn when backing up before the trailer cap gets close to the truck rear window.

With a wide body Solitude I can see that it would be close way before 75 degrees with a short bed truck. It shouldn’t be an issue with a long bed truck.

If it concerns you I would consider a slider hitch for your short bed truck or get a long bed truck to use the Andersen.

Hello Jerryr. Thank you for the response. We do have the lockout kit on the RotoFlex. It looks like a long bed truck is the best solution. I appreciate the help. Thanks again.

    Gary,

With the current virus I think you will find that your 2019 F-350 trade in value has tanked. In the first 15 days of April, compared to March, auction prices have dropped 11.5% for trucks.

While saying that, if I had to trade my 2019 F-350 today I would be looking at a F450 as a 5th wheel tow vehicle.

Have you considered a standard hitch and use your rotoflex, or keep it locked out and get a slider?

My guess is that he’s over payload as it is. A F-350 platinum CCSB has a payload of no more than 3400 lbs max. A standard hitch would make him even more over gross. A 344GK has a GVWR of 16,800 so the pin has a weight would probably close to 3400-3600 lbs. add people, hitch and other stuff in the truck and it puts you way over payload.

    It’s a good excuse to upgrade to a F450.

Yep I missed that part - definitely F450 I don't think a MAX GVW F 350 dually would work at those weights. Its a good time to buy though, but lousy trad values.

    Gary,

Forum tip: use the "Reply With Quote" function instead of just "Reply" (as I have done here) and folks will know to whom you are replying the the involved person will get a notification.

Just to be technical since were quoting ratings. A 350 dually will have more rated weight carrying capacity than a 450. A 450 has many advantages, weight rating just isn't one of them
