    Generator Help

    Greetings GD family
We have been thinking about a portable generator/inverter to use at dry camp grounds. I've been doing some research and I have a head ache. Not sure exactly what we should be looking at. We have a 2500RL Imagine. Would like to power refrigerator, lights, water pump, and most importantly, my wifes hair dryer. Running the A/C is not a priority as we seldome use it even when hooked up.
    I would welcome any input

    Thanks & Be Safe

If you are not planning on running the ac then a 2000 watt might suffice. Honda and Yamaha are popular brands. I've had really good luck with a Champion. It's been really good to me for many years. And a fraction of the price. Now I keep it for the garage. It's not an invertor so it's a bit loud for camping. I recently got firman 3300 inverter with remote on off. It's doing good so far and again, a fraction of the price of a Honda. If your planning on a 2000 or 2200, maybe best to insure that you can couple it in case you ever need more power like running ac.

Get a 3400 watt unit. Can run AC with soft start.

There’s literally dozens of threads already on this topic. Try doing a search and you’ll be able to read for hours on people giving their advice on portable generators.

I have a 15 year old Honda 2000i generator I bought for our first trailer. It will run one high draw appliance (microwave, hair dryer, coffee pot) at a time. It will NOT run the A/C though some people claim adding a soft start kit helps. Champion generators had just come on the market and there were reports of people having a hard time getting them serviced but I haven't seen that issue in several years. For a really cheap route some people are running Harbor Freight Predator generators but I don't know their longevity.

    Here’s a video I made a couple years ago.
This was southern Texas in the summer, it was hot and humid. Our little Honda ran our 15,000 BTU roof air all day long for several days while we boondocked in a field.

Trailer was factory, no soft start caps.

If my math is right, the roof a/c unit pulls about 1,800 watts so you should be able to run it.
My Honda is the newer model with 2,200 watts so it’s possible you just need that extra little bit of reserve.

If you flip the circuit breaker to turn off your battery charger, I bet you’d have enough reserve to run your roof air off your 2,000 watt Honda.
