Making progress, mostly in the battery area so far. Has anyone made an optional portable plug-in, in addition to the roof mount?
I have 4x 100W panels to fit on the roof and they probably will, but how about leaving one as a portable when parked in the shade?

I've yet to see anyone do this. Most people do one or the other.
Since we have 7 panels on the roof we simply don't camp in spots with shade.

We've been parked at campgrounds with shade, but those had hookups so we weren't using solar anyway.
When we're out boondocking, we're in huge areas, like the desert, so we've always been able to find a spot in the open to park our rig so our roof solar worked.

Personally, adding another 100 watts with a portable setup wouldn't be worth it for us.
Portables are too expensive and too easy to steal.

Resistance is Not Futile, It's Voltage Divided by Current.

"I'm pretty sure all the GD trailers have this port on the front end of the trailer."

Yeah it would be nice if they had both, but they must have decided on one or the other.
Everyone camps differently and has different electricity needs for sure.
I hear you on the theft aspect.
Anybody else have a portable in addition to roof mounted?

My trailer is due in any day now (it's in transit) and my plan is to use a portable panel/controller and connect it directly to the battery (will soon be 2). It would be independent that way.
May add roof panels at some point, but there is nothing wrong with charging batteries from 2 separate systems. I've been doing that on boats for years.

No drill brackets for roof solar panels are available online Amazon etc
$779 sounds pretty high for what you get
I'll be installing my solar system in the spring
Using 2-100 watt panels that came with my house back-up batteries and the no-drill roof mounts
Solar controller is Zamp Solar ZS-15AW, 270 watt
Adding a 2nd battery at the same time
While I'm on the roof, I will change all 3 roof vents to full fans/MaxxAir covers. I couldn't believe that GD installed those worthless mini-fans that create alot of noise and pull very little air, especially with an open bathroom. The only good in this is that 2 already have power. I expect they'll give me plenty of opportunity to invent new words - the solar install will be a piece of cake compared to changing roof vents.
