Boy I'm a PIA; Question About 12 cu ft Refrigerator on LP

Anyone else with the double wide, 12 cu ft fridge notice that when on LP it runs constantly? By run I mean you can hear the gas burner, kinda like hearing the water heater or furnace when they're heating.

We have that frig and I don't really hear it inside. When your are outside you can hear the hiss of the gas but that is about all.

I don't really hear it from inside but if I'm standing on the street side it is very noticeable. I opened the lower cover and the gas burner is consistently going. I don't remember my 8 cu ft Norcold doing that at all.

It goes in Thursday for some warranty repairs and I'm hoping to find out from other owners if this is something that needs to be serviced.

No, I never did. 6 months now and everything is working fine so I guess I just never noticed it that much on previous rigs.

That is the way that all absorption fridges I have owned has worked. Some you could hear and some you could not. Since the 12 CF is like two 6 CF then it requires twice as much propane to keep the absorption liquid moving in the coils.

That's what i figured, our old fridge you couldn't here it run, but the 12 c.f. sounds like a small torpedo heater running.

You guys make such a good point! I never thought about that but I have never had this large of an RV fridge so it makes perfect sense. Thanks, now I will not even worry about it at all. Although based on a discussion on another thread I think I'm going to try traveling with my fridge running on AC through my inverter. It should save propane and, although I am not worried about it, be a little safer.
