We have a 2016 F150 XLT 5.0 4x4 and we tow Imagine 2400BH. We did about 7500 miles with the trailer last year. The truck has 1884 payload capacity, which is fairly high for a half-ton truck. It handles the trailer ok with an Equalizer WDH and sway control. Never had issues with that. What you will lack is power in the mountains and braking going down hill. This is one of the reasons why we would like to upgrade to either F250 or F350 (Ram 3500, but not 2500) Diesel. This gives you engine exhaust brake and better payload capacity numbers. Sorry I couldn't comment on your particular model year, but I feel like half ton trucks are too small for Imagine trailers (except for XLS line).

The reason I wouldn't recommend Ram 2500 is because of two things, 68RFE transmission, and spring coil suspension in the rear. IMO leaf springs are better for towing.

@luke79; what was your GCWR and how close to this rating were you with your rig setup?

Honestly I don't know. I never had an oppotunity to take it to the cat scales. The trailer when empty weighs 5722 lbs. Hitch weight is around 800. We travel light, meaning the TT stores only food and clothing, which is probably few hundred pounds with tools that I have. Between the weight of the tongue, a generator in the bed and 4 passengers we never maxed it out, however we were close to the payload number. According to my estimate we had 300lbs left. Our towing capacity is 8900 and payload is 1884. Like I said before, in the 7500 miles that we traveled we never experienced sway problems. I only upgraded tires on the trailer and went with Goodyear Endurance tires instead of the factory mounted Westlakes.

As for how an F-150 will handle towing... Great. My old 2011 F-150 (3.5EB & 2WD) pulled a 6000 lb Imagine2150RB to the west coast & back twice. Never a hiccup from the truck going up & over the Sierra or Rockies with the trailer.

How big a rig can yours pull? That's a question you may be surprised with after you check your truck's payload rating. There are innumerable threads here about payload & how much a truck can/should/legally/might pull. I seriously recommend you do your math before you plunk down any $ on a trailer & pay zero attention to the salesman that tells you "sure, this truck will pull a _____".

    Good Luck

This is most likely your towing capacity. What's your payload rating? There is a sticker on the driver side door that should tell you all those numbers.

The 7700lb is the tow rating for my truck. Payload for the truck is 1490lb. My GCWR 13500. The rig were looking at has a GVWR of 6695lb and a UVW of 5295lb. Im also looking at another imagen GVWR 6395lb dry weight 4997lb.
